Winner’s Circle: Dan Smith

August 22, 2012

Just this week, Dan Smith booked his fifth win of 2012, by winning the EPT Barcelona €50,000 Super High Roller. Smith bested a field of 55 players to win €962,925 (post two-player deal), bringing his 2012 total to $3.3 million. That’s pretty impressive right? We caught up with Smith during the EPT Barcelona Main Event to talk a little bit about his win and plans post-Barcelona.

How do you like Barcelona so far?

I have been to the pool and to the poker room, and I’ve enjoyed both so far.

So you haven’t had a chance to see any of the city?

You have a great track record on the EPT. What sort of strategy do you have, especially in the big buy-in events?

I try to play well.

Any plans for the big score from the Super High Roller?

I didn’t wire any euros out here, so I didn’t have any for upcoming tournaments. So now I’m gonna buy into those. Aside from that, no plans.

What is your plan post-Barcelona?

I am going to Valencia for a week for some vacation. I’m going to go to Partouche for their tournament, also WPT Paris. Then I’m going to go to Toronto for 10 days. Then I will decide, if I feel up to it, I will come back for the WSOP Europe and San Remo.

Do you have any inclination to make a run at the EPT High Roller POY Award?

I don’t think it’ll affect any tournaments I play really. At any of the stops I’m going to play any of the bigger buy-ins. I also don’t think I’m going to make a run for it because I think the EPT tends to award min-cashes. I’m not going to the PCA, and there are at least one or two other stops I’m not going to be able to make. There’s going to be some of these guys that play all of them. Maybe if I get incredibly, incredibly lucky, maybe I’ll be able to bang it out.
