4:03pm: Break time
Second break of the day for one and all. Updates will appear in a new post for the rest of the day.
3:55pm: Conor flushes some chips away
Isle of Man TT star Conor Cummins’ stack has dropped to 13,000 after he made a smaller flush versus John Keown .
The two of them were heads up to the turn of a 4♠J♠A♠5♠ board where Cummins led for 2,000. Keown raised to 7,000 and was called. The board completed with the K♥ and Cummins check-called anther 10,000 only to be shown K♠Q♣ by Keown. Cummins opened 7♣7♠. — MC
We don’t know the exact betting pattern but when we arrived at the table there was a bet of 2,200 in front of Novick a call of 2,200 in front of Jesper Vis and an all-in bet of 7,450 in front of Tindal, who was the under-the-gun player. Action was on Novick, the American asked for a count of Tindal’s all-in, announced he was all-in and that forced Vis out the way.
Novick rolled over pocket kings, Tindal needed help to stay alive and he got it as the board ran A♠Q♦10♣A♥9♠. As he collected his spoils Tindal said: “I’ve missed with that hand about 10 times today so I knew I was going to hit this time.” — NW
3:25pm: In a flash, Gordon busts to Boeree
Chris Gordon, who – despite working full time – seems to final table a poker tournament every other week, has busted to Liv Boeree and headed off to buy back in again.
He was down to 12,175 when he committed his chips preflop. Boeree called and the cards were on their backs.
Gordon: 7♥7♦
Boeree: A♦K♣
The board ran J♠K♥4♠6♥2♠ to make the Team PokerStars Pro top pair. She moved up to 42,000. — MC
3:10pm: McAdam flops the nuts, gets paid
A cooler of a flop has just helped PokerStars’ Rebecca McAdam to more than double up to 44,000 through Mike Panteli.
She limped in from early position before Panteli raised to 750. Christopher Glover was in the small blind and called along with McAdam. The flop fell A♥10♣K♣ and Glover led for 1,200. McAdam quickly raised up to 5,000 and Panteli called which sent Glover into the tank. He decided to fold (ace-king he said later).
The turn was the 9♦ and McAdam paused before moving all in for 16,550. Panteli didn’t seem to like his spot but called and opened 10♦10♠ for a set. McAdam opened Q♣J♥ for a straight and survived the 8♠ river. Panteli dropped to around 8,000. — MC
2:55pm: Chip counts

Sara Chafak | Finland | PokerStars Player | 20,600 |
Fraser Macintyre | United Kingdom | 10,200 | |
Chris Straghalis | United States | PokerStars Staff | 9,800 |
To be fair to David, the chips went in on the turn when the board read 3♦Q♠10♣2♣. Cody opened Q♦10♦ for two pair and David flipped up A♣Q♣ for top pair and flush draw. The river was the K♣ and that was that for cody. — MC
2:15pm: Break time
The players are on their first break of the day.
2:07pm: MacIntyre and others bust a bullet
Fraser MacIntyre will be re-entering immediately after he busted his stack with ace-queen to an opponent holding pocket nines. The Scotsman had lost a chunk of his stack the hand before after he folded in a big pot. An opponent had called the clock on him during the hand and MacIntyre was less than impressed.
Other to fall so far on Day 1B include: Gurkamal Aujla, Dale McMullan, Michael Booth, Anthony Owens, Daniel Best, Antonis Poulengeris and Sunil Moti. — MC
2pm: Shrug call goes well for Benjamin
Benjamin Well was facing a chunky river bet from Duncan Cameron and had a face on that suggested he wasn’t going to be happy with whatever option he chose but was more than likely going to call.
Cameron had bet 4,000 on the river of a 3♣8♣6♣9♦4♠ board and Well had four orange 1k chips in his hand and was debating what to do. It was clear he wasn’t in love with the situation but he made the call anywhere and looked on as Cameron showed Q♣Q♦, it then became clear why Well had worn such an expression as he showed 3♠3♦ for a flopped set on a flushing and straightening board. — NW
1:50pm: Another bullet for Worley-Roberts
Deborah Worley-Roberts is a player that you can often hear before you can see her as she’s the talkative type and her distinctive American twang is easily distinguishable in a room mostly containing players from the UK and Ireland. Like Chris Straghalis she fired two blanks yesterday and is back for another tilt at a UKIPT title today.
She’s always happy to talk to the PokerStars Blog and as we passed by her table she held four fingers up. “This can’t be your fourth bullet can it?” we asked her and she was very keen to put the record straight. “This is my third bullet,” she told us. “I won this seat in last night’s satellite,” she added. Given that Worley-Roberts also won her first seat in a satellite she’s only had to pay full whack for one bullet…so far. — NW
1:45pm: The struggles of Straghalis
Chris Straghalis was one of those who unsuccessfully fired two bullets at this tournament yesterday and he’s back for a third try today. Unfortunately for the PokerStars staff member the third seems to be going the same way as the first two as he just lost a big pot to Katja Spillum Svendsen.
We picked up the action on the turn of a K♦10♦10♣J♣ board and Straghalis, who was in the big blind, checked it over to Spillum Svendsen. The UKIPT4 Marbella2 third placed finisher threw out a bet of 1,500, call from Straghalis. The 5♣ fell on the river and the pattern repeated itself, check, bet of 3,500, call. The Norwegian player rolled over A♣Q♠ for a straight and Straghalis checked his cards a couple of times before mucking them face down. — NW
1:35pm: A welcome video with Sarah Grant
Our video hostess for the week, Sarah Grant, has made a lovely welcome video for you all to enjoy.
1:28pm: Cody can’t beat two pair
Jake Cody has dropped to just under 20,000 after he couldn’t beat the two pair belonging to Craig Goddard.
Play was three-handed still at the turn where the board read J♦8♥3♠4♦. Cosy led for 1,100 and was called by Christopher Swinden before Goddard check-raised to 2,700 from the big blind. Both opponents called and all three checked the Q♠ river. Goddard opened 8♣3♣ and scooped the pot after both opponents folded. — MC
1:15pm: Craigie flops nice, gets paid
David Barnes raised to 250 from under the gun and called after Craigie three-bet to 675. The flop spread 4♠K♣J♠ and Craigie continued for 850. Call. The 7♥ came on the turn and Barnes raised Craigie’s 1,100 bet up to 3,000. She called and checked over the K♥ river to Barnes who bet 6,500.
After Craigie called, Barnes said, “Must be yours” and opened his A♣Q♣. He added, “Nice flop!” after seeing her J♦J♣ for a full house. — MC
12:55pm: Musical chairs
No one went bust during the first level and the field is now up to 170+ runners. This all means that several new tables have been opened in the past hour. For tournament integrity purposes tournament staff don’t put all the new arrivals at the same table, they usually leave one or two seats at each starting table free and if they need to start a new table they move the next big blind from a number of tables to do so.
The latter cause has seen a number of players handed a new seat assignment early on Day 1B. Chris Straghalis and Katja Spillum Svendsen have been moved to the same table as Conor Cummins and Chris Gordon, who was on the direct right of Zoe Gillings, has also been moved, the Olympic snowboarder now has PokerStars staff member Rebecca McAdam on her left.
12:40pm: It happens to the best of us
The poker world is littered with tales of missed flights, poker players aren’t the most organised bunch you know. Some of the best poker players are the worst at organising their lives in this way. Before you say anything, I didn’t mention Jake Cody’s name!
The curse of the missed flight has struck down one of the tour’s big character’s this morning.
“In all of my years of travelling I have never missed a plane train or automobile…….. Until now! FML!!! So IoM is off the cards, what to do?”
These were the words that appeared on Sam Acheampong’s Facebook page a couple of hours ago. He can’t get another flight to be here on time so has decided to cancel his trips. Sad times all round. — MC
12:20pm: B is for bigger
Before the first card was pitched today the Day 1B field had already surpassed the Day 1A total. When shuffle up and deal was announced 142 players were already in their seats eclipsing the 111 who entered the fray yesterday.
That number was boosted by a number of players who did play yesterday – this tournament is a re-entry – and among those back for their second, or in some cases third shot are: Paul Newey, Chris Straghalis, David Clarkson, Kelly Saxby and Tony Poulengeris.
Whilst the likes of Chris Gordon, Katja Spillum Svendsen, Rebecca McAdam, Rick Dacey and Harry Lodge are among those taking their seats for the first time today. The latter qualified online and will have fond memories of this stop as he finished fifth here in 2013 earning £27,600. He’s in form too having recently won £60,000 for taking down a £500 six-max event in the UK.
Late registration is open until the end of level four so expect that number to keep on rising until then. — NW
12:15pm: Local sport stars looking to perform
PokerStars has had a lot of close links with local sports stars in the ten years it’s been based on the island and two of the most high profile are playing the Main Event today.
Zoe Gillings is a professional British snowboarder and a veteran of three Olympic games. Her highest finish in her event – Snowboard Cross – was 8th in 2010 and she was also awarded British Olympic Association Athlete of the Year by Snowsport for the 2007/08 season.
I’m playing in the @Pokerstars #UKIPT today in #Isleofman Going pretty well so far 🙂
— Zoe Gillings-Brier (@zoegillings) October 2, 2015
Conor Cummins is a Manx motorcycle road racer, who rides the British Road Racing Circuit, with the most famous race being the Isle of Mann TT of course! Cummins suffered a huge crash on his home roads in 2010 but made a full recovery and is back competing at the top.
Gillings and Cummins have played on the UKIPT before but both have failed to cash so far. Being as competitive as they are they’ll want to put that record straight today and over the weekend. — MC
12pm: Shuffle up and deal
The Day 1B show is on the road as cards are in the air! — MC
11:45pm: Day 1B set to begin
Welcome back to the Villa Marina for Day 1B of the UKIPT Isle of Man. A total of (including re-entries) 111 entries took part on Day 1A and that number is expected to be eclipsed today. Adrian Filiczkowski ended yesterday as chip leader with 247,600, a high benchmark for those to aim at today.
Luca Pagano busted yesterday but he’ll be trying agin today and joining fellow Team Pros Jake Cody and Liv Boeree, who’ll be trying for the first time. We’ll also be welcoming tour regulars Chris Gordon, Dan Stacey, Fintan Gavin, Neil Raine, Mike Panteli and London Hippodrome Poker Room manager Kerryjane Cragie.
A number of PokerStars staff will be in the field today, looking for office bragging rights as much as a nice Autmn windfall. Rick Dacey, who used to be a key contributor to this blog, will be hoping to continue the good form that got him all the way to the final table of the staff tournament yesterday.
Cards will be in the air at 12pm BST, so join us back here then.
