August 08, 2022inPoker

The eyes of the poker world will be on Barcelona for the next two weeks as the European Poker Tour (EPT) returns to its most popular August destination. In addition to all the usual tournament action, here’s news of a very special event taking place on Monday, August 15 when the streaming superstar True Geordie brings his unique series to the live felt — and attracts some very special guests.

All poker fans have already cleared their diaries for some sensational coverage from EPT Barcelona, starting on the PokerStars Twitch and YouTube channels from Sunday, August 14. (See full broadcast schedule below.)

But it’s time to announce a spectacular addition to the scheduled programming, with the news that Brian “True Geordie” Davis will be hosting a very special edition of True Geordie: The Showdown live from EPT Barcelona. And true to form, the amiable Geordie has secured a terrific line-up of players to join him around the table for an exclusive single-table tournament — where the top prize is a £5,300 buy-in to the EPT London Main Event.

Brian “True Geordie” Davis is heading to Barcelona

True Geordie’s Showdown is one of the most popular poker shows available on Twitch. It typically features a regular home-game style tournament played between the immensely likeable recreational player and several of his friends.

As a spin-off from True Geordie’s football broadcasts, in which Davis and his friends discuss (and sometimes despair about) the world’s most popular sport, the atmosphere in the Showdown poker tournaments is informal and chatty, like the kind of games we all love to play.

The line-up for this one will guarantee plenty of chat: True Geordie will be joined by his long-time friends and streaming colleagues Rory Jennings and Adam McKola, alongside the Team PokerStars streamers Lex Veldhuis and Ben “Spraggy” Spragg. PokerStars’ commentator and comedian Joe “Stapes” Stapleton has also blagged a seat.

The six players will play a single-table tournament with 10,000 chips (and two optional rebuys), and this is a winner-takes-all affair. That prize? A trophy and a ticket to the EPT London Main Event worth £5,300.

“I am incredibly proud to take our premier poker talk show The Showdown on the road this August where we will be broadcasting live from Barcelona,” True Geordie said. “Enabling our fans from around the world to come and see the show in person is something we’ve dreamt of doing and we can’t wait to bring social poker to Spain.”

The event will stream live on both PokerStars and True Geordie’s channels, starting at 19:00 CEST / 18:00 BST.

Get ready for a production unlike any seen before, where top poker ambassadors will cross swords with some of Twitch and YouTube’s most popular personalities, and where the conversation is every bit as important as the gameplay.

Joe plays in various Hollywood home games and has entered several live tournaments, including UKIPT London earlier this year, but has enjoyed little success due to his “terrible luck”.

True Geordie and Spraggy go head to head

The format for The Showdown is as follows.

The game is a six-handed single table tournament. Each player starts with 10,000 chips, with two optional rebuys during the first 60 minutes of play (they must lose all their chips in order to rebuy).

After one hour, the tournament becomes a freezeout. At this point, any rebuys not taken will be awarded as extra chips. For example, a player who has used one rebuy will receive an additional 10k. A player who hasn’t used either rebuy can claim an additional 20k. So, this is, effectively, a triple stack tournament.

Blinds start at 100/200 and are scheduled to increase every 15 minutes.

It’s winner takes all, with the champion receiving a trophy and a ticket to the EPT London Main Event worth £5,300.
