A few years ago, Fixed Limit Holdem was the game of choice. Nowadays, people tend to prefer the No Limit variety, but when you combine a turbo-charged structure and the lure of a big prize pool, then Limit Holdem suddenly becomes more exciting.
Event #39 of the Turbo Championship of Online Poker was an $82 Fixed Limit Holdem 6-Max Turbo Event and the UK’s Maden2k was the one to triumph, picking up $11,366.52 in a little over three-and-a-half hours of game time.
The field of 866 players would ensure that the prize pool guarantee was met with the top 114 players to collect a profit.
There were a few Team PokerStars Pros in the field but sadly Naoya Kihara, Luka Kovač, Kosei Ichinose and former world champion Johnathan Duhamel all finish short of the money.
When mixmaster_p missed an open-ended straight and Bespont made a backdoor full house, mixmaster_p was out on the final table bubble as our final six were set as follows:
Final Table Line Up
Seat 1: caprioli (552,588 in chips)
Seat 2: Bespont (718,348 in chips)
Seat 3: Maden2k (1,231,485 in chips)
Seat 4: RCAMDESSUS (813,979 in chips)
Seat 5: THR33 (200,746 in chips)
Seat 6: Jhughes2008 (812,854 in chips)
With the final table blinds commencing at 30,000/60,000, this was always going to be a rapid-fire final table, and it didn’t take long for the fireworks to erupt.
THR33 was the one most under pressure, but managed to survive the first two all ins with split pots. However the relief was only momentary. THR33 moved all in with 10♠10♥ against Maden2k’s A♣8♣ but when the board ran out A♠8♦8♠5♣J♥, it was an emphatic victory for Maden2k with a flopped full house. THR33 was out in sixth place for $1,948.50 in prize money.
Maden2k was well out in front, but RCAMDESSUS moved into contention winning a big pot with ace-jack on an ace-high board against Jhughes2008’s ace-three.
Jhughes2008 was left short and soon after was all in with K♥Q♥ against Bespont’s J♣10♣. The final chips didn’t go in until the flop of 7♠3♣9♠ with Jhughes2008’s overcards still in front while Bespont added a straight draw. The 3♦ bricked the turn but the 10♠ river paired up Bespont to send Jhughes2008 to the rail in fifth place taking home $3,085.12 for their efforts.
capriole found a double up next hand with pocket kings, and then two hands later got lucky against RCAMDESSUS to double up again. capriole held ace-three against RCAMDESSUS’ ace-ten when both players paired their kicker on the flop. However capriole found another three on the river to win the monstrous pot.
RCAMDESSUS could only laugh as that crippling blow would force an all-in next hand. RCAMDESSUS had the same hand with A♥10♠ but Maden2k showed A♦J♣ with the board of J♠2♠8♥7♠2♥ pairing up Maden2k to eliminate RCAMDESSUS. Fourth place was worth $4,384.12.
Bespont threw up the idea to look at some deal numbers, but before anything could be decided, caprioli’s last chips were in the middle. After raises preflop and on the flop, the last chips were in on the turn on the board of 2♦7♦2♠4♠ with capriole just holding Q♠K♦ for overcards as Bespont’s ace-high was actually in front with 3♣A♦. That was, until the river K♣ rolled off to give capriole a pair for a big double up.
It was a devastating blow for Bespont who was all in next hand. On a flop of 3♥2♠4♥, Bespont was committed with K♣9♥ but Maden2k had flopped pretty good with 5♠4♠ for a pair and straight draw. The A♠ turn and 7♠ left Maden2k with a flush which was too good for Bespont who picked up $6,326.13 for third place.
Heads-up chip counts
Seat 1: caprioli (1,231,056 in chips)
Seat 3: Maden2k (3,098,944 in chips)
It was a near 3-to-1 chip lead to Maden2k when heads-up play commenced, and that extended over the first few hands, before the final hand of the tournament unfolded.
Betting was capped preflop before caprioli’s last chips were in on the flop of 6♥6♣8♦. Capriole was forced to go with K♦J♥ but Maden2k held A♣8♣ for the lead. The turn brought the 2♠ and the river A♦ sealed the deal.
capriole collected $8,281.12 for second place as Maden2k was crowned the newest TCOOP champion, winning $11,366.52 in prize money. Congratulations!
