We’re not even through the first week of Stadium Series, but there have already been more than 100,000 entries and prize pools of close to $3 million. Who took all the cream on Wednesday? Read on…

Valli denies Firaldo: Brazil’s “Joao Valli” — which may or may not be the online name of Brazil’s Joao Valli — won the biggest prize of Wednesday night’s Stadium Series competition, after he beat Niall “Firaldo87” Farrell heads-up to bank $36,151.85. Valli and Farrell struck a deal at the end of Heat 4-H, along with Austria’s “t8ofDiamonds”, which guaranteed all of them at least $32,962. t8ofDiamonds had to make do with precisely that as he finished third, Farrell took $34,926 and Valli ended with two grand more. Valli has a decent list of recents on the EPT and in South American tournaments, while Farrell is, of course, a former EPT Main Event champion. It was also Farrell’s second final table appearance already during Stadium Series.

Copani claims one for Argentina: It was more than five years ago that Juan Manuel “proggrezive” Copani first came to our attention, when he won the Super Tuesday for a six-figure score. Copani is now a Stadium Series champion too, having struck a heads up deal with “Analyser2” of Hungary in Heat 4-M before winning the final battle and banking $22,101.28. (Analyser2 took a couple of grand less.) The buy-in was $55 and 3,470 people played. That’s another smart return for Copani, and recovered some Latin American bragging rights as the only Argentinian in the top 80. By contrast, there were eight Brazilians in the last 24.

The final table in Heat 4-L

Slovaks hog low buy-in podium: Three players were left of 10,526 starters in the $5.50 buy-in Stadium Series Heat 4 when they decided to look at the numbers and strike a deal. With around fifteen grand of the $51,577 prize pool still on the table, it made sense. Two of the players, “VTomi24” and “torzon1985”, came from the small Central European country of Slovakia, and they faced off against “tommynasta” of Russia. It’s probably fair to assume that everyone finished happy. tommynasta took the most money, ending with $5,564.35, but VTomi24, who led this tournament at the end of Day 1, was crowned champion, and ended with $5,154.03. (torzon1985 took third and $4,318.10.) That’s a first Stadium Series win for Slovakia, and two places on the podium. Not at all bad.
