Noah “Exclusive” Boeken is an old timer, a “dinosaur” as he would put it. And he’s still taking down final tables of serious competitions more than 20 years into his online poker career.
Boeken won the SCOOP 2021 #58-H: $5k PLO 6-max HR event for a huge score of $157,427.
This is the third SCOOP title of Boeken’s career. He picked up his first in a Heads-up PLO event in 2013, and the second in an 8-Game event last year. Boeken also has four WCOOP titles to his name, earning his first back in 2005.
The PokerStars TV team caught up with Boeken for a chat about his win, his career, and his smoothie business:
James: You were winning trophies in 2005, you’re still winning events today. Not too many players can say that. What is the secret to your success?
Boeken: What was my secret? I would say experience. I’ve been playing for so long. I’m a dinosaur, you know, I’ve been there for a long time.
I always play to win. People ask me, how come you either win or you’re out really quick? I don’t really care about ICM or moving up a few spots. So I give myself the biggest chance to do really well.
That’s why I also pick mostly mixed events or PLO events. Because in the no-limit events the fields are too big, the players are too tough. I’ll play the Main Events, but I really enjoy the mixed games.
Joe: Talk to me about life in the smoothie business. Is the juice worth the squeeze?
Boeken: The juice is. I’ve been doing this for seven years. We got like nine (juice bars) in Amsterdam and then we got one franchise in New York, one in Memphis. We had a big plan to roll out more, but then the pandemic hit. Luckily, a lot of people now understand being healthy is kind of important. So that’s good for us.
It’s a lot of fun. It’s different than poker. I still play some SCOOPs and WCOOPs and hopefully live poker soon again, too, but not much. And now the juice business is just something else. We do all organic smoothies and juices.
James: It’s awesome that you still show up for the major online series now. And are we going to be seeing you in the Main Events at the conclusion of the series?
Boeken: For sure. I think I played one event last week, but I always play the final week. I’ll be playing I think every day except Friday.
I think yesterday it was my second event. So pretty lucky. I mean, I got a big stack pretty early gambling a little bit and never looked back. I played good, but you have to run good too, otherwise there’s no winning.
I hope to be back in another interview when the Main Event ends Wednesday!
