SCOOP: Kroko-dill collects SCOOP watch to go with WCOOP bracelet in $63K win

May 13, 2011

“Hey anyone want to play a three table $5,200 SnG, we will even throw in a championship watch to the winner!”
Team Online was doing some recruiting as well:

Donald: “Can someone join me at this table?”

In the early going just nine players signed up for this monster buy-in Event #14-H Limit Omaha H/L of $5,200. As StatusUp (winner of Event #9-High) was plunking down this large sum, Anders “Donald” Berg was sent to exile on a second table while the first continued on eight-handed. Knowing Anders frequently plays the highest LO8 cash game stakes perhaps no one wanted to move. Eventually enough players decided to take their chances at this large buy-in event to beat the $100,000 guarantee, 28 in all, including three members of Team PokerStars pro: Pat Pezzin, Alex Kravchenko, and George Danzer along with Team Online’s Anders “Donald” Berg.

In the early goings Pat Pezzin lead to the demise of both hilper and Jose Raul “head27” Severino all in one hand. With both players all-in just after two and half hour mark, Pezzin looking down at 3♥ A♠ J♠ Q♣ showing a second nut-low and a wrap broadway draw on the 8♣ 4♣ K♥ 10♥ board trying to beat out the two pair held by both hilper (25th place) and head27 (26th place). A lovely Q♠ on the river gave Pezzin the scoop and lopped two players from the field.

After Pezzin’s double whammy, much of the conversation at the table veered toward joiso who unfortunately came just short of three SCOOP titles, losing heads-up in both the Event #10’s Stud and Event #11’s Pot Limit Omaha HUs and a third place in Event #12’s Knockout tourney. The table talk concerned the final hand of Event #11 where Alexander “joiso” Kostritsyn held a set and nut flush draw while still deep stacked and got it all in against Sir_winalot9’s wrap draw that hit on the river to deny him a champion’s watch for the second consecutive night.

About 30 minutes later, Alex Kravchenko’s run never began as the third hour came to a close so did Mr. Kravchenko’s tournament in 21st place as his cards were mucked into the digital mist and chips divided up for joiso and Lou Fu.

Before the fourth hour mark we would also say good bye to SerYurAl, crazy169, madmags4, OnTheThinIce, James “Andy McLEOD” Obst, byniolek, and defending champion of this event villepn in 14th place.

The beginning of HN Kakaroto’s (winner of Event #10-H) demise and subsequent button mashing on the chat box can pointed at the hand below:

Turned straight for HN Kakaroto and rivered (higher) full house for Kroko-dill shipped a key 7,125 pot to Andrey “kroko-dill” Zaichenko who nearly grabbed WCOOP 2010 player of the year honors along with his Event #13 PLO8 bracelet. Just before the fifth hour break we would bid adieu to Sorel “zangbezan24” Mizzi who couldn’t complete his flopped spade flush draw against Lou Fu for his remaining 2,031 chips and finished in 11th place setting up the final table bubble (this one a little less serious since only four places paid out).

If you look at the final table screen shot below you will see Kroko-dill with a message for Alexey “LuckyGump” Makarov (who took down Event #17 in last year’s SCOOP). Kroko-dill: “sry” in the chatbox as the stakes were at 400/800 and Kroko-dill raised from the small blind and LuckyGump three-bet from the big blind, called as the two players saw a 2♦ J♠ Q♥ flop. Kroko-dill checked as LuckyGump raised and the two traded bets until LuckyGump’s last chips were in the middle holding aces 3♠ A♦ A♥ 5♥. Kroko-dill flipped up an open ended straight draw 6♣ 5♣ K♣ 10♦ but didn’t need it as running kings K♦ K♠ came on the board to crack LuckyGump’s aces and set up the final table below:

Seat 1: GeorgeDanzer (14175 in chips)
Seat 2: Donald (19240 in chips)
Seat 3: Lou Fu (25854 in chips)
Seat 4: p0cket00 (10802 in chips)
Seat 5: TheHood (13368 in chips)
Seat 6: Pat Pezzin (7849 in chips)
Seat 7: crocky (4650 in chips)
Seat 8: Kroko-dill (34329 in chips)
Seat 9: joiso (9733 in chips)

It would take five hours to return to nine players sitting at one table, but unlike most final tables this one would only pay out to four places as the pay jump from $0 to $14,000.00 between fifth and fourth place is a bit extreme.

Team PokerStars Pro Pat Pezzin eliminated in 9th place

Done in by Team Online Anders “Donald” Berg after Pezzin got off to a slow start at the final table, Pezzin was not able to recover. With the stakes at 400/800 Anders “Donald” Berg made the first raise as Pezzin in the small blind three-bet, and Berg capped it with Pezzin making the call. 9♠ 8♠ Q♦ on the flop and Pezzin put in his remaining 73 chips, Berg of course made the math call holding 9♣ 10♣ A♦ A♥ aces slightly ahead of Pezzin’s spade draw and kings K♦ 4♠ 6♠ K♣. J♥ on the turn gave Berg the straight, and a club on the river handed the 3,746 chip scoop to Berg, eliminating Pat Pezzin in ninth place.

Pat Pezzin: 9th place

Two crocodile enter, only one continues

Kroko-dill was sailing just fine coming into the final table near the chip lead while Billy “Crocky” Argyros had to make the most of a small stack, doubling and even tripling it a couple of times. But, his luck ran out as the stakes moved up to 500/100 and down to just 1,169 chips in the small blind he got to open the pot for the remainder of his chips as Danzer in the big blind made the call for 169 more. Crocky showed a pair of queens Q♠ 6♥ 7♣ Q♦ as Danzer rolled over a decent hi/low hand K♥ 10♣ A♦ 3♠. The low was not needed as Danzer caught two pair on the A♣ J♦ 10♥ 3♣ K♠ board and the Australian crocodile left without a bite in eighth place.

Seven ball, corner p0cket

Four place playing and seventh place got as much as 28th as the stakes moved up again to 600/1200 and p0cket00 sat on a small stack of just over three big bets looking for a place shove and scoop. p0cket00 would find it against Kroko-dill who obliged with enough bets preflop create a 4,854 chip pot and get p0cket00 all-in. Kroko-dill flipped up 7♦ 9♣ A♦ 3♠ as p0cket00 held 4♦ A♥ 5♥ J♥. No low would roll out on the 7♥ Q♥ 9♠ 10♣ 7♣ board, but thanks to the two sevens and the nine, Kroko-dill notched a full boat to bank p0cket00 into the corner pocket for seventh place.

Not enough Fu for Lou

Money bubble quickly approached as the player’s stacks to the blinds start to feel a little more hurt with every lap around the track. Lou Fu lost a big scoop to Kroko-dill’s absolute nut-nut hand for a 17,500 chip pot and two hands later had just 3,194 chips to face George Danzer’s aggression while sitting in the big blind. The players traded raises until Lou Fu was all-in to create a 6,888 chip pot. Lou Fu did not have much to look at 6♥ 9♥ K♥ 7♦ while the German pro showed a suited ace A♠ J♠ K♦ 6♠. 10♣ 8♣ 10♥ 3♠ Q♣ provide no low, no pairs, no flushes, no straights, and in a Vegas casino you might yell PAI GOW! Danzer’s ace-high would scoop the pot and send Lou Fu out before the money bubble in sixth place.

Hiding underneath

After losing three big pots to Donald and joiso in short time, TheHood found himself with just 862 chips and shipping them in with prayer as difference between the next two places was a decent car and the cost of air to fill the tires. joiso made sure no one came along for the ride making a raise as the stakes moved up to 1K/2K and flipped up a nice two-way 7♠ 9♣ A♠ 2♦ hand as TheHood was hoping for a lot of middle of road cards 8♥ 6♣ 7♥ Q♠. Just like Lou Fu’s elimination, TheHood missed the entire board as joiso managed just a pair of deuces with a nut-low on the 4♠ K♣ 3♥ 2♥ 10♣ board and everyone left was assured $14,000.00 as TheHood’s seven and a half hours of play was worth a pat on the back but no monetary value in fifth place.

Team PokerStars Pro George Danzer eliminated in fourth place

He would battle back from zero to establish a decent stack with sizable stakes but ran into the 2011 SCOOP steamroller known as joiso as the Russian pro scooped a 16,500 chip pot from Danzer and left the Team PokerStars pro with just 1,864 chips with the stakes at 1K/2K. Kroko-dill would be there on the very next hand holding a monster A♠ 3♥ 10♥ A♥ to Danzer’s 5♣ 9♥ 4♦ 3♣ who was nearly forced to make something happen. The flopped looked good for Danzer hitting two pair Q♣ 5♠ 4♠ but running kings K♦ K♥ on the turn and river gave Kroko-dill the higher two pair as George Danzer walked off the stage in fourth place ($14,000.00).

George Danzer: 4th Place

Kroko-dill: as u wish alex
joiso: sound like you hate me : )

The above was the results of very brief chop talks when the four stood with near identical stacks and joiso politely declined looking to finally follow-through with a win and a SCOOP champion’s watch.

Team Online Anders “Donald” Berg eliminated in third place

joiso started to pull away from the other two competitors holding nearly 60% of the chips as Berg started to fade not being able to counter joiso’s aggressiveness. With the stakes at 1.6K/3.2K and holding just 4,270 chips, Anders would get the rest of his chips in against Kroko-dill’s K♦ K♠ 3♥ 8♦. Berg would take 7♥ A♠ 9♠ 6♣ into the fray but the door card gave Kroko-dill the set K♥ J♣ 2♦ and the turn eliminated any backdoor low draw J♠ giving Kroko-dill an unbeatable full house, the 9,340 chip pot, and eliminating Anders “Donald” Berg in third place ($21,000.00).

Mother Russia owns the final table

Kostritsyn vs. Zaichenko for the title and this was joiso’s third shot at a SCOOP championship watch in just three days. But it was not to be after Kroko-dill took down five consecutive big scoops including this one below:

Check call all the way down only to be shown Kroko-dill’s flush losing another big pot as heads-up play, despite nearly even stacks at the start of play, would only last eight minutes.

Three-time runner up

With the stake still at 1.6K/3.2K and joiso down to just 8,914 chips the remainder of those chips would trickle out of his stack by check-calling all bets on the 10♦ 10♠ 4♠ 2♥ 2♠ board to be shown Kroko-dill’s full house for Kostritsyn’s last chips as Kroko-dill now owned a SCOOP champion’s watch to go with his WCOOP bracelet as tonight’s Event #14-H champion!
