PokerStars weekend review (1-21-13)

January 21, 2013

It’s been another jam-packed weekend of action at PokerStars, both online and at red spade emblazoned events around the world. TCOOP is in full swing and the Sunday Majors were – as usual – pulling in big numbers, as did UKIPT Edinburgh and the Macau Poker Cup: Red Dragon tournaments. And let’s not forget all the weekly tourneys, the results of which you can see by clicking here.

  • Live PokerStars events have been creating headlines with Yoshitaka Okawa taking down the Macau Poker Cup: Red Dragon tournament, while UKIPT Edinburgh tees up for what should be a great final table. EPT London winner David ‘davidv1213’ Vamplew is chasing the first UKIPT double (he’s already bagged the Season 1 Champion of Champions title). Click through for the UKIPT Edinburgh live updates now.

  • The Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP) began last week. Check out the full coverage of the tournament series here. Nineteen of the fifty events have played out so far so there’s still plenty of high octane action to be had. Among the early winners are Jonathan ‘MONSTER_DONG’ Karamalikis and Allan ‘Yaba’ Drake who took down event #2: $55 NL Omaha Hi/Lo helping to boost him into the top spot of the TCOOP leader board. Check the standings and prizes here. Drake’s played 18 of the 19 events so far: dedication pays.

  • Check out who is competing to be the first player to pick up the very first Triple COOP crown. It could even be Andrey ‘Kroko-dill’ Zaichenko who would actually take the inaugural Triple COOP and PokerStars Grand Slam at the same time (winning WCOOP, SCOOP, TCOOP and Sunday Million titles).

  • If there was a medal awarded for players scoring back-to-back Sunday Million final tables then there would currently be one in the post to Casey ‘bigdogpckt5s’ Jarzabek who did exactly that. Sweden’s Stackarn may have won and taken the largest chunk with a $164,701 haul but major kudos has to go to Jarzabek who finished third for $117,184 to break through $2.5m tournament winnings on PokerStars. This was Jarzabek’s second Sunday Million final table on the bounce having finished fourth for $78,641 last week (and for good measure he picked up $5,600 for a fourth place finish in the $109 rebuy at the same time) Nice start to the year.

  • And you can check out what happened in the Sunday Warm-Up, too.

  • If you somehow missed all the news coming out of this year’s PokerStars Caribbean Adventure – including Vanessa Selbst’s High Roller victory that’s made her the highest grossing female player of all time – then it’s your duty to check out our review of the PCA.
