“How can such a multi-faceted game not appeal to a young guy?”
So asks 29-year-old Pavel Aliapin, a medical equipment maintenance and repair specialist whose hobbies include biking, extreme sports, outdoor activities, and at at least one indoor activity — playing online poker, to which he’s referring here.
That’s what Aliapin was doing when he found his Platinum Pass in one of the Mystery Chests, playing on PokerStars while likely drinking coffee of which he likes many varieties and tends to drink it all day.
Aliapin first started playing about eight or nine years ago when he first started playing online while a student. Indeed, aside from occasional home games with friends, most of his poker experience has been on the virtual felt, where the Platinum Pass easily ranks as his most significant win.
He’s certainly a fan of the live game, though, listing Daniel Negreanu as his favorite player. Perhaps not an original choice, he adds, though goes on to explain how he appreciates Negreanu as a “very charismatic, bright player with a great sense of humor” who is “also very sensitive to the situation at the table.” Not a bad model for Aliapin to try to emulate once he gets to Barcelona for PSPC 2020.
