Mehdi Khorchi’s live poker career didn’t get off to the best of starts. “I’ve played one €50 tournament at the Cercle Clichy [poker room in Paris],” he said. “It shut down right after!”
It’s lucky, then, that there’s always online poker for the 41-year-old from Choisy le Roi, France. Playing as “bandit1403” on PokerStars, Khorchi has been playing poker, off and on, since 2012, starting off with Sit & Gos, moving on to MTTs and now mainly Spin & Gos. He hit his high point one Christmas Day when he won three tournaments in a single day, two with buy-ins of €100 and one of €50. He now plays the quicker format online owing to a lack of time to dedicate fully to poker.
Khorchi has an M.Phil in chemistry, which he says helped him develop the analytical skills he needs at the poker table. He also added that he likes numbers and stats, which offer a further edge in the game. For all that, he was on the right side of good fortune to book his trip to the PSPC: Khorchi won his Platinum Pass in the Platinum Madness promotion.
