Road to PSPC - Namur
Two tries was all it took for Jasper Van Laethem to get into the live poker groove. He managed to cash for €2,000 in the second tournament he ever played. After first taking up the game at 18 and playing for fun with friends and family, Van Laethem entered the organised poker fray at the first Lex Live gathering in Namur, Belgium, in March 2019, and the location has been a happy hunting ground for the 29-year-old ever since. He finished 13th from more than 1,000 players in the Main Event and added three more cashes before coming out on top of the Road to PSPC tournament in Namur in September. That’s what won him his Platinum Pass — and it’s no wonder he names Lex Veldhuis among his favourite players.
Poker is not quite a career just yet, and Van Laethem works as an online marketeer for the supermarket chain Lidl. But he has the right mental attitude for poker, listing “study” among hobbies also including crossfit, running, swimming and cycling. He returned to university to study management science.
