Crazy Pineapple Flipout
Amid the flurry of excitement at the start of Day 2 of the EPT Prague Main Event last December, Evgenii Shibaldin was an oasis of calm. It probably helped that the Russian player didn’t have a complete grasp of English as players chattered and jostled as Felix Schneiders oversaw a crazy pineapple flipout with more than 60 people involved. However, when it was all done — the oohs and aahs, the shouts of celebration and the hoots of despair — Shibaldin had a broad smile across his face and a Platinum Pass in his hand. He was the luckiest one, booking a seat in the PSPC in August.
Shibaldin, who is 31, does not have a particularly long string of tournament results, and was only playing in Prague because he qualified online. He was unable to make the money on the EPT either, and said he was feeling under the weather as the tournament began. But the victory perked him up and he says he is now looking forward to the huge event in Barcelona. “This is my first tournament with such buy-in and I am happy I will have a chance to play
it, can’t wait already.”
