Moneymaker's Road to PSPC - Newcastle
Daniel Stancer says he hates tournament poker, which is a bummer for someone who owns a Platinum Pass, confirming his registration to the 2020 PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) in Barcelona, Spain. That’s going to be the most prestigious tournament held in Europe next summer, so he had better get used to it.
To be fair to the 32-year-old from Hull, in Yorkshire, England, he was only disparaging about tournament poker in comparison with his bread-and-butter cash games. He’s a £1-£2 grinder, who makes his living from poker, having quit his job in IT a few years ago. He is also a former ski instructor and a former falconer, who once owned his own hawk.
Stancer does mix his games up a little, also sometimes dabbling in some PLO cash, and he was very clear in his reasons for attending the Moneymaker Road to PSPC tournament in Newcastle, about a two-hour drive from his home. “I was playing to win it,” he said. He beat a field of 436 entries in the £140 comp, and booked his trip to Barcelona.
He says he’ll now play a few more tournaments in the run up to the big one, and maybe also step up to some higher buy-in cash tables. And with such an efficient game-plan so far, who can rule him out?
