Christoph Walkenhorst

Like countless others around the world, Christoph Walkenhorst started playing poker during the boom years of 2004 and 2005. Inspired by Chris Moneymaker, he began playing online and in Friday night home games with his friends in Bielefeld, Germany.

Plenty has changed during the intervening years. Christoph became a social worker and worked with young refugees during the European migrant crisis. He married and started a family, with his second child arriving just a few months back. But through it all, those home games with friends that began in the wake of the Moneymaker Effect have remained a constant presence.

When he was chosen to attend EPT Barcelona and play against Moneymaker in the Chase Your Dream contest, Christoph said his work and family obligations left him unable to attend. “I’m really sorry, but it would take too much to reorganize all that, so I really can’t join you,” the 35-year-old told PokerStars at the time. “Maybe next time!”

Luckily for Christoph, he has plenty of advance warning for that “next time” now that he’s been awarded one of the first five Platinum Passes to play at the PSPC2 in Barcelona next August. Time to clear that schedule!
