Road to PSPC - London

A full-time insurance broker and part-time poker enthusiast, Andrew Barham of London first got into poker about 10 years ago when he played his first event — a £10 buy-in affair.

That was “a lot of fun,” he says, then a “holiday in Vegas fueled the passion. I didn’t like the table games playing against the house, so poker was a better option for me.”

Since then he’s collected several tournament cashes in London (and one in Vegas), typically sticking to £120-£440 events or satellites. He also enjoys working, reading, getting exercise each Saturday in his running club, and sports, including spending time following his son who is a high-level athlete.

Speaking of family, he quickly lists his wife, two sons, and daughter as “my biggest achievement.” Barham is excited to bring his wife along to Barcelona for the PSPC. “My wife and I always joke we never win anything,” he says. “We bought 40 tickets at the church raffle, but didn’t win.”

Barham earned his Platinum Pass at the Moneymaker’s Road to PSPC 2020 London event in October 2019. He topped a field of 468 in the £140 event to win a first prize worth about $9,600 USD (winning after a three-handed deal) plus the PSPC package.

Barham likes to enjoy himself and socialize at the tables, which is one reason why he lists Will Kassouf and Daniel Negreanu as favorite players. “The modern generation is a lot of headphones,” he notes, saying how players like Kassouf are changing that.
