PokerStars Caribbean Adventure kicks off 2018 with $10,300 Main Event
Technically speaking, you’re not supposed to start an article with a quote, but on this occasion, we’re happy to make an exception, because it comes from Director of Corporate Communications at PokerStars, Eric Hollreiser, and it’s something we think you might want to hear.
“We’re reviewing our live events and incorporating player feedback to ensure we’re delivering the highest quality experience and exceeding player expectations whenever possible.
“This feedback included suggestions that we restore the PCA name and improve the quality of that event to reflect the great heritage and unique experience that made PCA one of the most-anticipated poker events of the year. We’re restoring the name and reinvigorating the event to ensure it remains a premiere poker festival.”
You read that right. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure will be back in January 2018.
It was a well-loved top tier PokerStars-sponsored live event, and today we’re officially announcing the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA), will return.
While we’re excited to make that announcement, we also know that it’s not the name that makes an event well-loved, but the detail and spirit involved. So we’re also making a few changes.
Again, here’s Eric Hollreiser:
“We will also increase the promotions around PCA in order to bring even more people and make qualifying for packages as exciting as we can. We are committed to sending at least 400 players to this must-play event.”
There’s more, but first the logistics.
It all takes place at the familiar Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, running from January 6-14. It’s our 14th consecutive year at the resort, a place that has created champions, life changing results, and a lot of memories. We plan on making our 15th trip to this event, which began back in 2004 on a cruise ship, even better.
The PCA will present players with nine action-packed days of tournaments, cash games and activities. The Main Event has historically been one of the most popular tournaments on the poker calendar, and also one of the richest. So, after listening to player feedback, we’re reinstating the $10,300 buy-in.
Over the years the PCA has become a highlight for High Stakes players, but also for those players with more modest bankrolls. With that in mind there will be something for everyone when the PCA returns.
The Super High Roller tournament will start the nine-day festival in style and features a buy-in of $100,000; with the $50,000 and $25,000 High Roller events also on the schedule for later.
As a way of saying thank you for players’ continued support, all tournaments over $10,000 will feature a reduced admin fee, where the fee will be capped at $300 down from $2,000, $1,500 and $750.
Admin fees will also be reduced by 50% on all tournaments with levels of 19 minutes or less. It’s estimated that these reductions will keep approximately $300,000 or so additional dollars in the players’ pockets during the event.
Here are a few others additions:
Following player feedback, a streamlined and tailored schedule with more than 30 tournaments has been added to focus on offering longer levels on tournaments (40 minute and up).
On-site tournament and cash game promotions and rewards including a $50,000 freeroll on the last day of the event (January 14). The freeroll will be free-to-play and it will be open to anyone who has played in one of the other PCA events listed on the tournament schedule.
Limited edition PCA merchandise.
After WCOOP, there will be special promotions running including “Road to Bahamas”, with regular MTT and Spin & Go satellites awarding PCA packages; special daily challenges; randomised satellite ticket drops on our most competitive weekly MTT events; and extra special “Ultra-Satellites” with a large number of guaranteed packages.
They’ll be a wealth of additional player activities on offer away from the tables including daily Q&A sessions with Team PokerStars Pros and lots of fun competitions.
Perks include an invitation to attend an enormous player party, and a player bag worth $200 each (yep, we’re bringing them back). While we’re at it we’re going to make improvements to the food and beverage options as well.
They’ll also be a live face-to-face battle at the poker tables with the world’s fastest man, Usain Bolt, and the world’s funniest man, Kevin Hart.
We hope at least some of that makes you want to join us in January.
Satellites to the PCA start in September on PokerStars. There will be more ways to qualify than ever before and players can qualify for as little as $1.10.
As you’d expect, we plan on celebrating this return in style, so as well as promotions and activities, you can also expect a big thank you for all the support players have given us over the years.
We have a lot planned, and we’ll bring details of that in the lead up to the event. For now check out the PokerStars Live homepage, and stay tuned to the PokerStars Blog for updates.
