PCA 2015: Pastor keeping up the pace

January 12, 2015

Argentinian Juan Martin Pastor — chip leader for a while yesterday during Day 3 — continues to maintain above-average chips during the early action here on Day 4, having chipped up to 1.24 million and into the top five in the counts with just 40 players remaining.

More of an online guy than live — and more cash than tourney — Pastor arrived at the Atlantis following an exciting conclusion to 2014 marked by his successfully achieving Supernova Elite status.

Becoming a PokerStars Supernova Elite — that top-level VIP status requiring the earning of 1,000,000 VPPs within a calendar year — is an enormously difficult achievement. It’s also a task performed largely in isolation by the dedicated few willing to grind hours and hours and hours to get there.

With just a couple of days to go before the end of 2014, Pastor — a.k.a. “xPastorcitox” — was a mere pittance of points away from collecting the prize he’d been working towards for nearly 12 months. After getting that far alone, he decided to let others be part of the last, satisfying steps of his journey. A celebration was in order, and with a little help from his friends a party was organized to mark those last hands.

Our friends at Codigo Poker were on hand to chroncile the happening, and we challenge you to watch the first couple of minutes without grinning:

Speaking of grinning, we’ve come to recognize the always amiable Pastor at events on the Latin American Poker Tour over the past two years, a period that has seen him collect several cashes including a final table appearance at the LAPT6 Colombia Main Event where he finished eighth.

This marks Pastor’s third try in a PCA Main Event and first cash, the size of which is yet to be determined. He’s got a few friends here, too, watching from the rail.

Having gotten to see the preview above, we can only imagine the celebration that could await should Pastor continue to keep up his pace here as well as he did at year’s end.
