LAPT7 Chile: Double-knockout eliminates DW & Teach

March 22, 2014

We had a chance this week to talk to a couple of Americans who made the trip to Viña del Mar to play on the LAPT, Team PokerStars Pro David Williams

…and Ken “Teach” Aldridge.

Playing on the same table, both had gotten short going into the last break. And as it would happen both saw their LAPT Main Event tourney journeys end on the same hand.

After Williams open-raised all in for just under 90,000 from middle position, the action folded to Aldridge on the button who upon looking at his cards found himself in a quandary as he eyed both Williams’s stack and his own of about 105,000.

Finally Aldridge set his lone column of chips forward, reraising all in. Then he and Williams watched as Oded Minond of Argentina swiftly announced he was reraising all in over the top of both.

“Triple-diple” said Williams with a grin as he rose from his chair, and as the big blind let his cards go Aldridge was standing too while Minond sat upright to learn the terms of the trio’s impending battle.

Williams: 9♣9♦
Aldridge: K♦Q♦
Minond: A♠K♠

The small-card flop of 2♠7♥6♣ was just fine with Williams, but the K♣ spiked on the turn to pair both of his opponents with Minond’s kicker giving him the edge over both.

The 8♣ came on the river, and several handshakes later it was over to the cashier’s desk for the two Americans, with Williams taking 44th and Aldridge 43rd, both earning $3,580 for their finishes.

The pace continues to move quickly now with the field having already dipped down below 40 players. Just a few more to go and at 32 they’ll call it a night.
