Labat leads debut France Poker Series event

May 02, 2010

The European Poker Tour may have been packed up and carefully put back in its box for another season, but PokerStars’ other live events continue. One is currently enjoying its first outing, the France Poker Series in the Casino of Beaulieu-sur-Mer. This beautiful Mediterranean venue is just a few miles down the coast from Monte Carlo, which may help to explain the excellent 149 starting field.

Big names playing included Team PokerStars Pros ElkY, Arnaud Mattern and Thomas Bichon. Also there after final tabling EPT Monte Carlo on Friday was Roger Hairabedian as well as Tristan Clemencon, Alan Smurfit and French tennis ace Gael Monfils, a new member of Team PokerStars SportStars.

Some 35 survived yesterday’s day 1 and will return today to compete for the title and €40,123 first prize. The man they’re all chasing is Antoine Labat who bagged up 305,000 chips, followed by Mylène Cougan (who busted ElkY early in the day) on 302,000, and Christopher Gross on 252,000. The only Team PokerStars Pro France still standing is Mattern on 60,000.
