KaptianKush crushes, captures 10/2/12 Super Tuesday, collects $89K

October 03, 2012

Super Tuesday logo.pngThe Super Tuesday saw yet another big turnout this week, with 466 entrants jumping into the $1,050 buy-in no-limit hold’em event. That meant a prize pool of $466,000 — well above the $300K guarantee. The top 54 finishers would divide the loot, with $89,425.40 due the winner barring any final table deal.

After nearly five hours of play the field had shrunk below 80 players, with danceofddead having pushed to the top of the counts as the only player with more than 100,000 chips.

About an hour later just 55 players remained when a short-stacked Illini213 was all in with A♥K♦ against the 7♥7♣ of joeyspanne88. No help came for Illini23 who finished in 55th, the last player eliminated before the money.

With 54 players left, WaGe N Warz had grabbed the top spot with more than 150,000, with joeyspanne, Gassbeek888, and KaptianKush the only other players with more than 100,000.

By the seven-and-a-half-hour mark they were down to 18, with Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker leading the way with nearly 300,000, followed by KaptianKush with just over 200,000 and danceofddead with about 197,000. Among those cashing by then were Clayton “slammedfire” Mozdzen (52nd, $2,330), Tom “hitthehole” Middleton (42nd, $2,563), Chris “Big Huni” Huchison (38th, $2,563), mtvdeuem (37th, $2,563), Big_Nemo (34th, $2,796), Jack “jackellwood” Ellwood (29th, $2,796), Mathew “matfrankland” Frankland (23rd, $3,262), and lermonad (20th, $3,262).

Over the next 90 minutes, nine more players fell, during which stretch Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet, young_diam18, and danceofdead chipped up to occupy the top spots on the leaderboard. Marc “dean23price” Wright (18th), BrightStripe (17th), and BlackBetty71 (16th) each earned $4,194. Jeremy “00psiedaisy” Fitzpatrick (15th), joeyspanne88 (14th), and BWFCLEE (13th) made $5,216 apiece. And danidanidani (12th), Mr BuyButton (11th), and WaGe N Warz (10th) each grabbed $6,058 for their finishes.

The final table was set.

Seat 1: Benjamin “delaney_kid” Delaney (Australia) — 145,006
Seat 2: Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker (Canada) — 178,132
Seat 3: danceofddead (Ireland) — 343,810
Seat 4: young_diam18 (Austria) — 352,430
Seat 5: Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet (Canada) — 364,895
Seat 6: KaptianKush (Canada) — 213,251
Seat 7: INSHALA82 (United Kingdom) — 271,684
Seat 8: Gaasbeek888 (Netherlands) — 162,961
Seat 9: Flsah Back (Denmark) — 297,831

The nine-hour break came and went, and about 20 minutes after that young_diam18 — who by then had slipped to 106,846 (ninth position) — open-pushed all in from the cutoff and got a single caller in INSHALA82 sitting in the big blind. young_diam18 showed K♥10♠ and needed help versus INSHALA82’s A♥8♣. But the board rolled out 6♠5♥2♣8♠7♠ and young_diam18 was out in ninth place.

Just a couple of hands later it was Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet min-raising to 18,000 from the hijack seat and INSHALA82 calling from the button. It folded to Flsah Back in the big blind who reraised to 54,000, thus prompting an all-in shove from Van Fleet. INSHALA82 stepped aside while Flsah Back called in with the 192,344 behind.

Flsah Back had A♣K♦ and apestyles J♣J♥. The community cards came 8♥7♠6♠4♥Q♠ and Van Fleet’s jacks held, pushing him up close to 680,000 and into the chip lead ahead of INSHALA82. Meanwhile, Flsah Back had been eliminated in eighth, a second straight deep run in the Super Tuesday after finishing 12th last week.

The next half-hour saw both danceofddead and Benjamin “delaney_kid” Delaney earn double-ups through INSHALA82 to knock the latter back down under 100,000. Soon INSHALA82 was raising all in from early position for 84,351 and getting called by Delaney from a couple of seats over. INSHALA82 had A♣10♣ and delaney_kid J♥J♠. The flop came 5♣Q♥3♠ and turn the 8♣, thus giving INSHALA82 a flush draw. But the river was the 4♦ and INSHALA82 was out in seventh.

The blinds had moved up to 6,000/12,000 when a hand arose in which danceofddead raised to 24,600 from the button, then Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet reraised to 61,585 from the small blind. danceofddead called the reraise, and the two saw the flop come 4♠9♦9♣. Van Fleet led for 60,000 and danceofddead called. The turn was the 6♦, and apestyles bet again, this time 70,000, and danceofddead called once more.

The river brought the J♣ and an all-in shove for 260,000 from Van Fleet, and danceofddead called again. Van Fleet showed Q♦Q♣ for queens and nines, but danceofddead had 6♣6♥ for a full house, and apestyles was out in sixth.

That hand catapulted danceofdead into the lead. They soon made the 10-hour break, with danceofddead still in front with almost 900,000, delaney_kid next with about 842,000, Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker third with a little over 254,000, KaptianKush fourth with about 183,000, and Gaasbeek888 last with about 150,000.

Not long after play resumed the blinds were 7,000/14,000 when delaney_kid made a 2x raise to 28,000 from under the gun, then nutsinho reraised all in for about 252,000 the next position. It folded around to Gaasbeek888 in the big blind who called all in for 209,690 total, forcing a fold from Delaney. The two remaining players’ hands were shown:

Gaasbeek888: A♣K♣
nutsinho: 10♥10♣

The board came 9♣3♦Q♦3♣Q♥, meaning Lyndaker’s tens were best and Gaasbeek888 was out in fifth.

A short while later danceofddead had slipped back to an average stack before making a little more than 2x raise to 32,800 from the button. Only KaptianKush called from the small blind.

The flop came 3♦7♦10♥. KaptianKush checked, danceofddead bet 44,000, and KaptianKush called. The turn was the A♠ and KaptianKush checked again. This time danceofddead bet 88,000, and KaptianKush came back with an all-in raise which danceofddead called with the 313,203 left behind.

danceofddead showed Q♥10♦ for a pair of tens while KaptianKush had K♦J♦ for a flush draw plus a gutshot to Broadway. The river then brought the 2♦, completing KaptianKush’s flush and sending danceofddead railward in fourth.

The blinds moved up to 9,000/18,000, then came a hand in which KaptianKush raised to 36,850 from the button. delaney_kid folded in the small blind, then Richard “nutsinho” Lyndaker reraised all in for 270,063 from the big blind and KaptianKush called.

Lyndaker had 10♣9♣, but KaptianKush had two better clubs, turning over A♣Q♣. The board ended up bringing three more clubs, coming K♠4♣J♦5♣J♣, giving both flushes but KaptianKush the better one, and nutsinho was out in third.

Heads-up play began with delaney_kid in front with 1,433,575 to KaptianKush’s 896,425.

Over the first 10 minutes of their duel the pair traded small pots with KaptianKush gradually narrowing the gap, then edging out in front. Ten minutes after that KaptianKush had increased the advantage to about a 2-to-1 lead when a preflop all-in occurred. delaney_kid showed A♥A♠ and KaptianKush had… A♦A♣. The pot was chopped.

That was the last hand before the 11-hour break, at which point KaptianKush had 1,437,031 and delaney_kid 892,969. They battled on, with Delaney again regaining the advantage.

KaptianKush then won a preflop all-in with A♥K♦ versus delaney_kid’s A♣5♠ to take a big lead. But Delaney doubled up himself soon thereafter when his 6♥6♦ held up against KaptianKush’s A♠6♠. Then finally, 11 hours and 17 minutes after the tournament had begun, the final hand took place.

It began with delaney_kid opening with a 2x raise to 50,000 from the button, then KaptianKush responding with a reraise to 138,550. Delaney_kid paused just a beat before pushing all in for 904,738 total and KaptianKush quickly called.

It was A♠Q♦ for KaptianKush and 2♥2♠ for delaney_kid. The flop came 3♠Q♥6♣ to pair KaptianKush and leave Delaney hoping to spike one of the two remaining deuces. But the turn was the A♥ and river the 7♦, and KaptianKush had won.
