Well, this should be good.
We’d been hearing for days about a SuperStar Showdown match in the offing just after the first of the year. We’d picked up some rumblings about who might be involved, and just minutes ago it was confirmed for us: Isildur1 will play the notorious Tony G in a high stakes battle.
On January 2nd at 16:00 ET, the King of Swing will meet The G. heads up over four tables. The game will be half no-limit hold’em and half pot-limit Omaha at $50/$100 stakes. Both players have escrowed $150,000 for the match.
If you’re not familiar with Tony G., you probably haven’t been watching televised poker over the past several years. Infamous for his coffee-housing and relentless needling, Tony G. takes a particular pleasure in dissecting his opponents verbally. If his mouth doesn’t give him away at the tables, his screen name will. You’ll find him in the SuperStar Showdown under the likely nom de guerre Tony G.
After Isildur1’s first SuperStar Showdown against Isaac Haxton (that one ended with a $40,000 loss for the new Team PokerStars Pro) there’s been a fairly consistent line-up of people ready to take on the mystery man. It’s gone badly for most of them this week.
After the rocky PokerStars start in which Isildur1 saw his account evaporate, the Team Pro showed up on December 26th with what appeared to be only $10,000 available to play. In just the past few days, Isildur1 has run that up to more than $300,000.
On Monday, Isildur1 hit the tables and played a little less than 4,000 hands for a $117,720 shot in the arm. Yesterday, he played nearly 9,000 hands for another $172,062 bump. Already today, Isildur1 has been in action and eviscerating anyone who sits down across from him.
That is a long way of saying, Tony G. will be running into Isildur1 at a fun, flush time. It should make for some entertaining railing.
The PokerStars Blog will have full coverage of the match on Sunday night. If you’d like to watch as it happens (make sure the kids are out of the room), here are the details:
