When PokerStars revealed its signing of Isildur1 to the elite roster of Team Pros, the news came with the announcement that the biggest-rolled of PokerStars players would have a special opportunity to take their shot against the notoriously swingy online nose-bleeder.
Isaac “philivey2694” Haxton is the first who stepped to the plate.
On December 19 at 6pm ET, Haxton and Isildur1 will face off at four $50/$100 no-limit hold’em tables over a 2,500 session. The match, one of a series known as the SuperStar Showdown, will be played in public on PokerStars for everyone to watch. This isn’t some run-of-the-mill promotion or made-for-tv event. The players are putting their own money on the table.
It was almost four years ago that we met Haxton under the Bahamas sun as he nearly took down a PCA main event title. In 2007, Haxton finished runner-up to Ryan Daut and earned more than $860,000. Since then, he’s gone on to be a well-respected cash and tournament pro who has earned three million dollars in tourneys alone.
As promised, you’ll be able to watch the match as it plays out. Take a look under the Hold’em > No Limit / Pot Limit section of the PokerStars cash lobby to be part of the rail.
Isildur1 said, “I’m looking forward to the challenge on Sunday, it´s going to be an exciting game. I have a strong confidence in my heads-up no-limit hold’em game. Isaac Haxton is a player that I have a big respect for.”
For his part, Haxton isn’t afraid. “I am very excited for the match. I love a challenge and Isildur1 will definitely be one,” Haxton said. “He is one of the best heads up no-limit players in the world, but I know what I need to do to beat him. I’m as confident as you can be going into a 2500-hand match against a top opponent.”
So, we’ll keep an eye on the game Sunday night. It should be a doozy.
