Eureka5 Hamburg Day 1B: The second (of four) flights about to begin

May 24, 2015

Welcome back to Hamburg, Germany for Day 1B of the Eureka Poker Tour Main Event. The Spielbank Schenefeld Casino is once again full of light; background music and the clocks have been reset ready for another flight of players.

Yesterday attracted 103 players – whittled down to 32 by the end of play – and we’re hoping to match that number today. Kadir Uzunoglu amassed an impressive 253,100 by the end of the day, largely due to winning a big pot with aces in the last level of the day, and any player matching that today will do very well.

Not only was it a big day for the city yesterday in poker terms, it was also a big day for local sporting fans. The city’s biggest football team, Hamburg SV, needed a win to avoid relegation to the second tier of German football. They got the win that meant immediate relegation was avoided but they face a playoff game on Thursday to save their season. We’re basically living through the tension with all the Hamburg SV fans that will also be playing poker during this festival.

Cards will be in the air at around 1pm CET. Make sure you stay tuned to the blog for any major stories that happen throughout the day.
