The PokerStars party last night was loud, lively, and involved some clowns dressed in odd clothes. The clowns were the party entertainment, not the players, who were
mostly all smartly dressed and wouldn’t possibly clown around due to their poker commitments in the morning.
The women who have returned to the PokerStars Women Live event day two today have quickly got on with the serious business of making the money. Two unlucky players have gone home empty-handed. Isabel Balthazar was the short stack at the start of play and exited in 10th place when her Ace-Six was beaten by Lucia Martinez’s pocket fours. Rekha Choraria was the bubble girl when her King-Two was beaten by Lucia’s Four-Six, so our final table was set like this:
Charlotte van Brabander 35,800 (Belgium)
Darya Hulyk 83,300 (Ukraine)
Liya Geresimov 37,500 (Russia)
Barbara Martinez 51,000 (France)
Hannah Dombroski 26,500 (Spain)
Leo Margets 42,900 (Spain)
Tatiana Toplakova 85,500 (Russia)
Lucia Martinez Ibanez 141,400 (Spain)
Chip leader Lucia Martinez is a Barcelona local, a regular in the cash games at the Casino Barcelona. She started the day with the lead and looks to be using her home advantage well, playing tactically to call many short stacked all-ins. And I’ve just heard she’s eliminated Charlotte van Brabander to take the lead to new heights.
Charlotte van Brabander might be disappointed by her eighth place finish today, but she told me she’s recovering from food poisoning and would welcome a chance to get some rest and recover so she can see some Barcelona sights.
Close behind Lucia in chips is Darya Hulk. Darya has travelled to Barcelona with a bunch of friends who are regulars at Europe’s poker festivals. She said she also played the PokerStars Women tourney at the Grand Final and it helper her that she recognised so many of the women in the field here at Barcelona. She was intending to play the main event day 1a, but her final table means she’ll play tomorrow.
Liya Gerasimimova is the girlfriend of Team Pro, Ivan demidov, but has considerable experience herself, her best result being a $ 142,688 cash in a WSOP $ 5,000 No Limit Hold’em event in 2009. She has played many EPT ladies events, as she travels the circuit with Ivan.
Leo Margets won the PokerStars Women Live event in Monte Carlo earlier this year, following a tough heads-up battle with Victoria Coren. Leo is certainly the most experienced player at this final table, increasing her chances of a repeat win. Her performance in the WSOP main event in 2009 brought her to the poker world’s attention when she was 27th for $ 352,832, and has followed that up with a string of good results including some recent cashes in WSOP 2012.
The PokerStars Women are playing for the following prizes, and the PokerStars Women trophy, which would look very nice on anyone’s mantelpiece.
