EPT11 Grand Final: €2K NLHE underway, star-studded €5K PLO final table shaping up

May 04, 2015

As has been the case every day for the last week, there’s a lot happening today at PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino EPT Grand Final — even apart from the €10,000 EPT Grand Final Main Event, that is. They raised the roof over the tournament room earlier in the afternoon to help shine some light on the proceedings.

Hello, sunshine
Speaking of, let’s shed some light ourselves on what else is happening at the Monte Carlo Bay Resort and Hotel today.

In addition to a couple of satellites there are a half-dozen other tournaments playing out as the festival continues to march forward. A couple helped get things going at noon, the biggest being Event #43, a €5,000 pot-limit Omaha eight-handed tournament that attracted 46 runners to build a €223,100 prize pool.

Timo Pfutzenreuter, Davidi Kitai, Max Silver, and Emil Patel were part of the group participating when cards first went in the air in that one. Yevgeniy Timoshenko and Talal Shakerchi were also among those taking part.

As the dinner hour approaches they are down to 14 with just the top six spots paying, with Sergio Braga (fresh off a seventh-place finish in the 993-entry France Poker Series Monaco Main Event), Justin Bonomo, Dermot Blain, Sylvain Loosli, Dan Smith, and current Global Poker Index top-ranked tournament player Scott Seiver all still vying for the trophy.

Another big side event got going this afternoon, a €2,000 no-limit hold’em affair — Event #46 — that through the first two 50-minute levels had a couple hundred players in seats with late registration open through Level 4. Team PokerStars Sports Star Fatima Moreira de Melo and Team PokerStars Pro Leo Margets were among players in action at the start of that one.

Elsewhere a €500 NLHE turbo (Event #44) has played down from 79 entrants to a final table and should be finishing soon. Mirroring that noon-starting tournament is another €500 NLHE turbo (Event #49) that begins at midnight.

Lovers of non-standard tourney fare have options today as well, with several tables’ worth of players already at it in Event #45, the €550 limit Omaha hi/low. A €500+€500+€100 NLHE Turbo bounty tournament (Event #47) starts later tonight, as will a €100 NLHE “Deuces Wild” Turbo tournament (Event #48) with unlimited €50 rebuys that should satisfy late-night action-seekers.
