EPT Monte Carlo: A Thew chips fewer

April 29, 2009

Julian Thew, a former champion on the EPT, endured a rough start to his day, but things have started to perk up in the past few minutes. “I’ve won four pots this level,” he said. “It took me three and a half hours to win the first one.”

At that point the 15-minute break began, giving Thew the chance to fill in a few more details. “I have 20,000 now, though it feels more like 50,000 given how the tournament has gone so far. The thing is that some of the other players gained a lot of chips early on and now things are starting to turn against them and they’re beginning to spew. I don’t find the table tough at all. Me, Juha (Helppi) and the Irish guy to my right have all been sitting, just unable to find hands. There is lots of time though.”

Meanwhile elsewhere, we’ve lost former WSOP and WPT champion Carlos Mortensen, as well as Thierry Van Der Berg and the French player Nicholas Levi, the latter’s exit coming with top two pair against a gutshot and flush draw, which got there.
