EPT Deauville: The art of noise

January 22, 2009

The noise right now is coming from Michael Fratty. The Frenchman erupts like Vesuvius on every hand sending ripples of mirth and misery around the ballroom in equal measure. It all goes on one table away from Dave Ulliott, an Englishman not into this sort of thing. “Bring him to my table”.

Fratty isn’t fetched but Pawel Chmiel is, the Polish pro bringing close to 80,000 with him after a good day yesterday and another table break. This one also features Amerigo Santoro who, as Chmiel unpacked, doubled up through Jerome Orain. Santoro had shoved with pocket tens and was called by Orain with A-9. Santoro’s fate looked sealed when an ace hit the flop but the ten on the river restored balance to the world to the soundtrack of the odd “oooh” and “ahhh”.

Spare a thought for the near 150 players already eliminated today as we reach the second break. One of those casualties was PokerStars qualifier Tony Dobson who brought a little more than 9,000 back to the show today but was out and heading back to Blighty in no time. Not before talking to the video blog team though…
