EPT Barcelona: Tucking in to day 1b

September 05, 2009

If the key to a good day is a good breakfast then the hotel lobby of the AB Skipper could be the spot from where the day 1b leaders, and even the tournament champion, will emerge. It was there, amid comfy seats and starched linen, that today’s cast of characters, here for a day traditionally a little tougher than its twin preceding it, gorged on the breakfast buffet, juggling plates from the selections: “healthy,” (fruit), “sensible,” (cereal and toast) and “what the hell,” (just fry it), all washed down with coffee.

Which of those works best has yet to be discovered and there was no clear sign as to which option Diego Arias had chosen yesterday morning. But whatever it was it fuelled him well, sending him to 193,000 by the end of the day after a remarkable leap up the chip charts in the closing minutes, nearly 50,000 ahead of the next guy. Kippers perhaps.

But how will today shape up? Among those here for a bash at shaping it in their image are the likes of Eastgate (watermelon), Negreanu (nuts*), ElkY (croissants*), Minieri (aviation fuel**), Luske (a song*), Kang (cigarettes) and Becker (sunshine). Of course there are others, familiar and no so familiar to be listed here shortly, but looking around one thing’s for certain: today’s field will bulge at the seams.

So allow yourself the odd glance at the latest from the WCOOP but keep your eyes focused on Barcelona and your trigger finger hanging over F5. The official chip counts from yesterday can be found here, where you can also find the latest from today as things progress. That’s it. Play will begin shortly.
