If a million dollar tree falls in the middle of a casino and no poker reporters are there to write about it, did anybody get rich(er)?
I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean. I just know that it’s a pretty interesting night when there is a $100,000 buy-in poker tournament reaching its conclusion and finding any news about it is like looking for a Yeti in the Sahara.
No, I don’t know what that means, either. I just know what I know from Twitter, which is that Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu just managed to win nearly a million bucks, and the only reason I know that is that he was providing his own live updates via Twitter.
Here’s the story as told through the tweets of Kid Poker himself, beginning with last night’s last update.
Finishing for the night 5 handed I have 1,472,000 avg is 1,170,000 in second ish behind Ike Haxton with Dan Smith slightly behind

3 handed chip count #100KBellagio
Me 3.4
Schillhabel 1.2
Dan Smith 1.2— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) December 2, 2017
And then Negreanu went radio silent for a long time, leading us to believe a black hole opened and sucked the Bellagio into a vortex.
Or maybe they went to dinner. We have no way of knowing. All we know is that some time later, Negreanu resumed his reporting.
Schillhabel A-7 down to 500k chops all in with Dan Smith A-6
I have 4 million of 5,850,000

— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) December 2, 2017
Heads up with @DanSmithHolla he has 3.2 to my 2.6 mill
— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) December 2, 2017
It was around this point that we wondered if there was a universe in which we poker reporters didn’t even exist and where Negreanu et al had been self-reporting the action through the entire poker boom.
The heads up match wasn’t a long one, but it gave us a dramatic final hand, reported by…yep…same guy.
Damn got it all in on a JT4 flop with QT vs AK. Turn 7. River Q made two pair and lost to the rivered straight. 5 million chip pot. Happy with the result! Hard work pays off! @avoidthe9to5
— Daniel Negreanu (@RealKidPoker) December 2, 2017
So, in the end, Dan Smith won the $1.4 million, while Negreanu had to be satisfied with $936,000.
If he wants to make up the difference, we can offer him some live reporting work in Prague.
We pay pretty well, Daniel.
And congrats.
