On this week’s Poker In The Ears, Joe Stapes and James Hartigan bring exciting poker headlines and writer, actor and producer Michael Ian Black joins the show to talk cards and comedy.
First, the boys get nostalgic about all the stuff they’ve been rewatching (3:23). James is getting stuck in to his third (or maybe fourth) run through of Westwing and dipping into the Disney channel. Joe has been rewatching Justified while not watching Tiger King.
Next it’s a rundown on the latest poker headlines (10:26), including the story of Sunday Million winner “AAAArthur”, who’s journey to becoming a millionaire started with a 25c Spin N Go, and details of Turbo Series VI, running now until April 16 with over $25 million in guaranteed prizes.
James and Joe have been working on another project as of late, the EPT Retro (13:32), modern commentary on poker classics. EPT Season 3 coverage continues this week and strategy is gradually evolving. Check out the streams via Twitch and YouTube on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Special guest Michael Ian Black joins the show at 23:34. The comedy legend’s favorite poker games include Baseball, a little known variation with loads of wild cards, along with 7-card Stud and Hold ‘em. Black’s love of poker even led him to several appearances on Celebrity Poker Showdown, though he admittedly mostly went for the hotel credits and other benefits.
Michael introduces some of his work (36:01) and shares a bit of light-hearted thought about his quarantine situation, before taking on Joe’s Stupid Game (41:01).
The podcast closes with Superfan Vs Stapes (47:35). This week, Miles Miller from North Dakota plays for Poker In The Ears t-shirts, and actually picks a decent specialist subject, Blade Runner 2049.
