After a successful trial, it’s time to make this permanent. The news coming out of PokerStars HQ this morning is that the Women’s Sunday — that much-anticipated fixture of the PokerStars tournament week — will continue with the $22 buy-in that has proved such a hit.
Originally the buy-in for the tournament was $55, but all evidence suggests that players prefer a $22 price point, and so $22 it will be.
“Since testing the buy-in at $22, we’ve seen more players getting involved and received positive feedback on both the entry point and the tickets we’ve been adding to the prize-pool from our female insights community ‘Our Voices‘ and on other platforms, so we’ve taken this on board and made the change,” said Rebecca McAdam Willetts, Associate Director of Consumer Engagement and Public Relations at PokerStars.
To celebrate the new $22 buy-in, this Sunday’s tournament, on May 16, will have $640 worth of tournaments tickets added to the prize pool. The winner will receive a $530 tournament ticket, while the players finishing second and third will receive $55 tickets, which can all be used in the SCOOP Afterparty series.
As always, the tournament has a $2,000 guaranteed prize pool, plus these added bonuses.
McAdam Willetts added: “We’re continuing to work on this and other ideas behind the scenes and would encourage players to sign up to ‘Our Voices’ and get involved so we can continue to shape the space for women in poker together, and give them the best experience possible.”
Our Voices is free and very easy to join, and offers female players a direct line of communication on all matters relating to PokerStars.
“We will be encouraging discussion, asking players for their thoughts on a range of topics to ensure we’re as inclusive, engaging and safe as possible,” said Nikki Allan, of PokerStars, on the launch of Our Voices. “This feedback will not only influence our plans for women but will ensure a female perspective on all activity where research and insights are needed.”
The Women’s Sunday tournament takes place every Sunday at 14:40 ET (19:40 BST; 20:40 WET) on PokerStars.com. Late registration is available for the first 90 minutes of play, and players can re-enter once during the re-entry period.
Satellites run from Thursday through Sunday, costing as little as $0.22 to enter.
Note: Players must have their gender assigned as female in the “Settings” tab to play in the Women’s Sunday. Players who would like to assign their gender can contact PokerStars Support. Due to regulations, players in Sweden are not eligible for the tournament tickets.
