Over the course of the last decade Tom Dwan has emerged as not only one of the games’ more elusive players, but also one of its most bewildering. To watch him is to be left scratching your head asking “how?”, while to imitate him is to find yourself drawing dead with just a high card. To take durrr on typically results in humiliation, the public kind, the kind that will live on forever in poker history.
Like these five hands, that we’ve taken from the vast PokerStars archive, and which we think stand as five of the best hands played on television by Dwan.
They range from the ridiculous to the sublime – from the 8-high shove to the nut straight kind. Along the way he encounters, and dispatches, the likes of Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth and Patrick Antonius, rendering them completely silent. As reactions go it’s an easy one to understand, given that these hands include the biggest pot ever shown on television.
