It’s the day we’ve all been waiting for. The climax to one of the premier poker championships in the world, and undoubtedly the biggest event down under. Today we crown a new champion of poker in Australia. It’s time for the Aussie Millions Main Event final table!
Jake Balsiger. Darren Rabinowitz. Scott Seiver. Vincent Rubianes. Ami Barer. Andrew Phaedonas. Sorel Mizzi.
One of those seven players will today be crowned the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event champion. They’ll win AU$1.6 million but they’ll forever be immortalized in the Crown Poker Room and in the Australian poker community.
Over the years, the final table of the Aussie Millions has delivered some fascinating and thrilling moments. Who could forget when the Great Dane Gus Hansen found pocket aces to win the title? What about when Australian Stewart Scott finally broke through for the locals? Then there was the drama last year when play had to be halted until a new day after it looked like play was going to stretch until 10am? Of course Mervin Chan was victorious to become the first champion from Asia – a significant moment in itself.
What moments lay ahead of us today?
One thing you have to say is this is one of the best credentialed Aussie Millions final tables we’ve ever seen. Most of these guys have incredible records and are proven talented players. You have to think that means we’re going to see some impressive poker this afternoon which will make for great viewing.
Here’s how the final table line up:
Seat 1: Jake Balsiger (USA) – 2,385,000
Seat 2: Darren Rabinowitz (USA) – 2,365,000
Seat 3: Scott Siever (USA) – 855,000
Seat 4: Vincent Rubianes (USA) – 3,865,000
Seat 5: Ami Barer (Canada) – 6,570,000
Seat 6: Andrew Phaedonas (Australia) – 1,105,000
Seat 7: Sorel Mizzi (Canada) – 2,830,000
And here’s what they’re playing for today:
The final table is being filmed upstairs in Studio 3 in the Crown Casino and there is some limited seating available for those who want to come along and watch live. We’re guessing the biggest support crew is going to be for local hope Andrew Phaedonas. This is the biggest poker stage Phaedonas has ever seen and he’s carrying the weight of an entire nation on his shoulders. No pressure mate.
It all kicks off at 4:30pm local time and hopefully before the sun rises tomorrow, we’ll have a new Aussie Millions champion.
Don’t go anywhere! The PokerStars Blog will bring you all the live action from what should be a thrilling finale to another brilliant Aussie Millions here in Melbourne. Stay tuned!
