The red carpet has been given a steam-clean in readiness for today’s opening session in the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Manila main event after receiving a torrid workout yesterday.

Scores of local and international media descended on the Hyatt Hotel and Casino yesterday for the official launch, hosted by APPT president Jeffrey Haas, Filipino Poker Tour executive producer Alan Escano, Team PokerStars Pro Lee “Final Table” Nelson and representatives of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).

Lee Nelson will be waving the Team PokerStars Pro flag in Manila.

The APPT is headline news in all of today’s daily papers and featured prominently on last night’s evening news: prime time poker comes to the Philippines! Many members of the media returned later in the day for a free-to-enter poker tournament.

The local media get a taste of the green felt.

The evening wrapped up with the launch party – the music was loud, the San Miguel beer was cold and the promo girls were gorgeous. Now well into its second season, the APPT is developing a genuine “tour” feel, and the launch party is a great chance for everyone to catch up before getting down to the serious business on the green felt.

It’s a full house at the APPT Manila launch party.

Not only will the region’s best players be in action today, the who’s who of Philippines’ society circles will take their seats for a special celebrity poker event, which will be filmed for local TV. We’ll be back shortly for the start of day 1A in the APPT Manila main event.
