2_7FTWdonk gets it done in Super Tuesday

July 11, 2012

Super Tuesday An international final table has seen representatives from nine different countries, an amicable three-way chop and a win for Norway as 2_7FTWdonk claimed today’s Super Tuesday crown.

The Super Tuesday saw a field of 338 players hit the tables of PokerStars to surpass the $300,000 prize pool guarantee. The top 45 players would reach the money stage with a min-cash worth $2,028.

Unfortunately Denmark’s mrvogt would feel the pain of the bubble, shoving a tick under four big blinds from the small blind with 4♥A♦. Jordan “JWPRODIGY” Westmorland gambled with J♥3♥ in the big blind and it paid off on the board of 8♥10♣J♦4♣10♠ to see the final 45 players happily in the cash.

From there, they started to fall away with Ricky “rickwaa” Kroesen (33rd – $2,197), Julian “soydelmillo” Menendez (29th – $2,197), Aaron “DaLuckBox” Benton (23rd – $2,535) and Matthew “mjw006” Wakeman (12th – $5,070) among the cash winners.

When an aggressive Piggysnipz three-bet shoved K♠9♥ from the small blind into grekos1981’s 10♦10♥ in the big blind, the board bricked out to see Piggysnipz fall in 10th place as our final table lineup was set:

Final Table Lineup

Seat 2: JWPRODIGY (133,619 in chips)
Seat 3: marioq2 (136,308 in chips)
Seat 4: NessV (38,405 in chips)
Seat 5: mendieta19 (179,312 in chips)

Seat 8: 2_7FTWdonk (249,199 in chips)
Seat 9: Miss_Tank187 (198,018 in chips)

With the blinds kicking off at 1,800/3,600 with a 450-chip ante, grekos1981 held the chip lead as the short-stacked NessV found an early double up with pocket eights. marioq2 ran into a full house before finding a fortunate double up with ace-queen against the ace-king of DanceWiwMe as the nine players wouldn’t budge for quite some time.

In the end it was jucalau1973 who was first to go. jucalau1973 picked the wrong time to three-bet bluff with the old 2♥5♣ as NessV made the call with 8♥8♦. jucalau1973 would need a lot of help but it was all over on the flop as the board ran out K♦8♠9♥K♥3♠ to give NessV a full house as jucalau1973 picked up $5,915 for a frustrating 9th place.

A few hands later and it was NessV who was next to the cashier. After flatting a raise preflop holding Q♣Q♠, NessV went to war with marioq2 on a flop of 10♥J♦5♥. When NessV four-bet shoved all in, marioq2 made the call and was in great shape with powerhouse K♣K♦ in a cooler of a hand. The 2♦ turn and 7♦ river completed the board leave NessV to depart in 8th place for $8,112 in prize money.

With seven players left we saw the biggest pot of the tournament to date as marioq2 continued on his merry way with a huge double elimination:

What a time to wake up with pocket aces! marioq2 takes out two with Jordan “JWPRODIGY” Westmorland collecting $11,492 for 7th place while mendieta19 gets $14,872 for 6th place as the largest stack of the two eliminated players.

Just two hands later and we were suddenly down to the final four. Action folded to 2_7FTWdonk who moved all in from the small blind with Miss_Tank187 calling off the last twelve big blinds with K♦J♥. 2_7FTWdonk showed 7♦7♥ and the pair managed to hold through the board of 9♠Q♥6♠A♥5♦.

With four players left, the short-stacked grekos1981 was pretty keen to look at the numbers, but no-one else seemed interested in chatting:

grekos1981: “wanna see numbers guys?”
2_7FTWdonk: “guessing marioq2 dont want to”

The lack of support proved beneficial for grekos1981 who was able to double up a short time later in fortunate fashion against the chip leader:

marioq2’s two pair was run down by grekos1981’s overpair for a big double up. After 2_7FTWdonk also collected a healthy pot against marioq2, things evened up in the counts as the idea of a deal was again thrown out there during the next scheduled break.

grekos1981: we can look at numbers now?
DanceWiwMe: i guess we can look but not promising anything and not giving up xtra for anyone

As the players waited for the host to arrive and some rough ICM numbers were thrown around, DanceWiwMe had a change of heart and the players decided to get the cards back in the air.

It was a decision that would ultimately backfire for DanceWiwMe.

After battling hard to steal the blinds as the short stack, DanceWiwMe shoved around twenty big blinds from the button with A♣8♣ but 2_7FTWdonk made the call in the small blind with a dominant A♠Q♣. DanceWiwMe flopped a flush draw, but missed on the board of 3♣6♠J♣2♥Q♦ to depart in 4th place for $27,885.

It didn’t take long for the three remaining players to pause the clock once again to discuss a deal. The chips were almost dead even:

Seat 1: grekos1981 (524,771 in chips)
Seat 3: marioq2 (587,012 in chips)
Seat 8: 2_7FTWdonk (578,217 in chips)

The players were pretty happy to split the loot three ways with $48,541 apiece and play it out for the remaining $6,000 for first and the title of Super Tuesday champion.

2_7FTWdonk started to surge ahead with some power poker as grekos1981 felt the pressure. When 2_7FTWdonk called a flop raise, and a turn bet before play was checked on the river on a board of Q♣10♥4♥J♥6♦, 2_7FTWdonk’s 4♣9♣ for a pair of fours was good enough to collect the pot as grekos1981’s cards hit the muck.

That left grekos1981 short-stacked and shoving seven big blinds from the button with 3♦K♦ as marioq2 made the call in the small blind with A♣2♥. The board ran out 7♠4♦Q♥5♥8♠ to leave marioq2’s ace-high in front as grekos1981’s good negotiating skills netted $48,531 for 3rd place.

Heads-up chip counts
Seat 3: marioq2 (717,684 in chips)
Seat 8: 2_7FTWdonk (972,316 in chips)

2_7FTWdonk held the advantage and maintained that position with some aggressive play before the first major heads-up pot was also the last.

marioq2 min-raised the button to 24,000, before 2_7FTWdonk three-bet to 48,000 from the big blind. marioq2 popped it up to 120,000 but 2_7FTWdonk instantly moved all in. With 262,594 behind, marioq2 called it off with K♣7♥ to see the bad news as 2_7FTWdonk was in control with A♦7♣. Both players paired the K♠A♥4♠ flop which changing nothing, before the 5♠ turn and 10♥ river completed the board. marioq2 was left to be content with $48,531 for 2nd place as 2_7FTWdonk is this week’s Super Tuesday champion and $54,531 richer!
