For the past few weeks, the members of Team PokerStars Pro have been in Las Vegas searching for gold. With all the sparkling lights, buffets, and neon, Las Vegas can be a distraction, but one Pro was able to step away from that for three days and emerge victorious.
On Sunday night, Vanessa Selbst became the first woman to win a WSOP gold bracelet in an open event since herself - yes; you read that right - in 2008. After her win, Selbst tweeted, "Thanks to everyone for the support and congratulations. I am so happy right now and having such amazing friends & fans means the world to me!" Plenty of Team Pros offered their congrats to Selbst via Twitter including Daniel Negreanu, Liv Boeree, Andre Akkari, David Williams, Lex Velhuis, and Victoria Coren.
Speaking of tournaments, one kicked off on Sunday that was a pretty big deal. The $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop was under way and there were a number of Team Pros who dropped $1 million for the charity event.
"It's official. Table 411 Seat 6 this Sunday. A one million dollar buy in event. Who woulda thunk," tweeted Negreanu.
Joining Negreanu on the blue felts as part of the prestigious 48-player field were Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamel, and Eugene Katchalov. And if you were wondering what a $1 million buy-in looks like, thank Mercier for this tweet: "Bought into one drop. @realcharder30 spoiled the picture. Enjoy! #face"
The Ladies Championship also kicked off last week, and just like you'll find on Women's Sunday and Women's Tuesday on PokerStars, the tournament is just for the ladies - almost. Some men decided to take advantage of the fact that the WSOP can't exclude them and joined the field, but the ladies of Team PokerStars Pro didn't let that bring them down. Liv Boeree, Vanessa Selbst, Victoria Coren, and Vanessa Selbst, all partook in the action.
"So my strategy to get drunk and crush the ladies event only half succeeded!! ;) #drunkandbusto," tweeted Rousso.
If you didn't get a chance to see any pictures from the event, the floor staff was dressed a little out of the norm. Here's a photo and tweet from Victoria Coren about it: "This is how the floormen are dressed for the WSOP ladies' tournament. I think this is EXCELLENT."
It's not all work during the summer in Las Vegas. On top of playing poker and working out, the Pros find the time to party a little - some on the lake, others at the Vegas standard.
Boeree chose the lake for the weekend. "Bah, busted the 1500. Taking the rest of the weekend off, lake mead tomorrow."
Rousso, Matthias de Meulder, and Lex Veldhuis chose the Vegas standard:
Rousso celebrated her friend's birthday at a club, "Having a blast w my friend Lisa! On our way to a nightclub!!"
"Party at @tryst with the boys and a bunch of dutchies! Might have to skip 2moro's wsop :p," tweeted Matthias De Meulder.
De Meulder's sentiments were echoed by Veldhuis, "Had an awesome time at Tryst yesterday. Perfect remedy after close to bubbling. Amazing I don't have a headache today. #1eyedrunk."
And since we're talking about drinking, we'll leave you with this thought from Daniel Negreanu, "Today seems like a good day to start drinking scotch on the rocks."
That's pretty much any day Daniel.
