Those with an important father figure in their lives most likely were out sometime this week looking for the perfect present for Father's Day. Would dad like another Ed Hardy tie for climbing the corporate ladder? Maybe a shiatsu foot massager for after those rough days at the office. Or how about 10% of your winnings in the World Series of Poker Main Event after winning the seat in PokerStar's massive $370 buy-in 200 seat guarantee qualifier? No telling how many of the 8,669 players that showed up for this huge ticket launch with dad in mind, but 252 of them would walk away with the $11,000 WSOP Main Event packages that include some nifty PokerStars swag, eight nights at the Palms, and the opportunity to become a millionaire many times over.
Currently there are 611 players already lined up to make the trip via PokerStars to the Rio's Amazon Room with buy-ins for the Main Event awaiting their arrival. 281 players still had chips after seven and a half hours of play as the hand-for-hand portion of the tournament began. Sadly, Team PokerStars Pros Jude "j.thaddeus" Ainsworth, Chris "Money800" Moneymaker, Veronica "Princesa" Dabul, Randy "nanonoko" Lew, Dusty "Leatherass9" Schmidt, Martin AAbenjaminAA" Hruby (who after checking the current list of WSOP Main Event qualifiers already has a seat), Marcello Del Grosso, Grayson "spacegravy" Physioc, Ruben "rubenrtv" Visser, Martin "Goral" Horecki, Thierry "BOWPOWER" van den Berg, Raymond Wu, Julian Thew, Martha "marene" Herrera, Steven Paul, Grzegorz "Da Warsaw" Mikielewicz, Richard Toth, Tom McEvoy, Jorge Arias, Gualter Salles, all tried to get into the show for cheap but fell short.
The money bubble started with 280th place getting $160.00 as 279th thru 253rd just played poker for over eight hours to get their buy-in back ($370.00) and will live to tell friends of how close they were to going to the show. Four Team PokerStars players were sitting on the cusp of a 96% discount coupon to play in this year's Main Event: Johnny Lodden, Emad Tahtouh, Nuno Coelho, and Alvaro "VARICO" Ballesteros were all sitting with solid stacks as the number of players trickled from 257, 256, 255, 254...
Play would slow to a crawl as 253rd place represented a $10,630 jump in "prize money" as micro stacks like aWizard, balvey2474, raghand, NWA Natural, and thefuxor clung to the last of their chips. But, it would be balvery2474 who would bow out after having to post the small blind with just 1,287 chips left as the blinds stood at 5K/10K ante 1,250. MOSHPIT69 would call from the button as RedPokerPro check the option in the big blind. Both players would check down the 8♥ Q♥ 3♦ 5♠ K♦ board as Red Poker Pro flipped up K♣J♠ good for top pair, the pot and 252 very graceful players as balvery2474's cards slid into the muck and everyone left now had a ticket to tournament # 265749047.
Congratulations to all of our qualifiers this evening, and we'll see you in Las Vegas in a few weeks!
