WCOOP 2011: CASlNO ROYAL holds off tbac1 for Event #49 title ($215 NLHE 1r+1a)

wcoop2009-thumb.jpgThe re-buy period of a re-buy tourney is fun for some and costly for some if not most. It is a chance for players to build up their stacks so that when they are not able to re-buy anymore they can use that stack to put their opponents in difficult positions. Event #49 was the latest chance for the re-buy specialist to get in on the PokerStars WCOOP action and hopefully collect a bracelet along with the money that comes with winning.

A total of 1,157 players entered with 754 re-buys occurring before the re-buy period concluded and 618 add-ons happening as it closed. That generated a $505,800 prize pool that had 153 players get paid.

The money bubble was a short one lasting only one hand with two players, both from Russia, busting on that hand. Dimka19881 had Im $orry out chips therefore he collected $758.70 while Im $orry became the bubble boy. Also making it to the money were Team PokerStars Pros Vivian Im and Liv Boeree who went out in 98th and 86th respectively.

Seat 8: G's zee (1,452,331 in chips)
Seat 9: shtirlitz_ (2,091,040 in chips)

Sykoen eliminated in ninth:

The first elimination of the final table came when Sykoen and tbac1 got into a classic race with all the chips in the middle preflop. Sykoen moved all in with 7♣7♠ and was called by tbac1 who held A♣T♣. The A♠K♦K♥ flop was not good for Sykoen. When the board finished out with running sixes his fate was sealed eliminating him in ninth place where he collects $5,563.80.

twirlpro eliminated in eight:

tbac1 was not done after taking care of Sykoen, his next victim was twirlpro. All the action was preflop when after an initial raise from Indo17 to 77,555 tbac1 made it 212,055. twirlpro then moved all-in for 1,076,155 which brought a fold from Indo17 and a call from tbac1. When the two players cards were revealed the news was grim for twirlpro who held K♠K♣ against tbac1's A♣A♥. When the board ran out J♣5♥2♦2♥4♠ twirlpro was sent packing while tbac1 moved above three-million.

G's zee eliminated in seventh:

After raising to 100,000 Casino Royal was faced with a 500,000 re-raise from G's zee, who had 121,077 left behind. Casino Royal made it 900,000, enough to put G's zee all-in, and G's zee called. G's zee was ahead at the moment with T♦T♣ but was in a race for his tourney life against Casino Royal's A♣K♣. The race was over as soon as the 8♣4♣2♣ flop was revealed leaving G's zee drawing dead. G's zee collects $14,921.10 for his seventh place finish.

Indo17 busted in sixth:

After a string of double-ups for the short stacks Indo17 ended up at the bottom of chip counts. When in the big blind and facing a min-raise from tbac1 to 120,000 Indo17 put his remaining 165,442 into the middle. tbac1 called with A♥T♥ while Indo17 had Q♥8♣. The K♥T♦3♥ flop brought tbac1 a pair along with a flush draw leaving Indo17 looking for a non-heart queen or running cards to remain in the tourney. The 6♥ turn was the final nail in Indo17's coffin giving tbac1 the flush. Indo17 was eliminated in sixth place collecting $19,979.10.

shtirlitz_ eliminated in fifth:

shtirlitz_ and Casino Royal tangled four hands after Indo17 exited. The result was shtirlitz_ being eliminated. The hand started with Casino Royal min-raising to 120,000 from under-the-gun. He was called by shtirlitz_ and the two saw a A♦K♦6♥ flop. shtirlitz_ checked to Casino Royal who bet 153,750. shtirlitz_ then raised all-in to 465,160 and Casino Royal called. shtirlitz_ showed K♠Q♠ for second pair while Casino Royal showed A♠7♦ for top pair. The 6♣ turn and 6♠ river delivered no assistance to shtirlitz_ sending him out in fifth place.

pokerlove82 eliminated in fourth:

After min-raising to 160,000 pokerlove82 was re-raised to 320,000 by Casino Royal, which induced an all-in re-raise to 1,153,490. Casino Royal called and showed A♣7♠ while pokerlove82 had 5♣5♠. Everything was good for pokerlove82 through the turn as the board read Q♦T♦6♣6♠. The A♠ river card was not what pokerlove82 wanted to see eliminating him in fourth place to collect $35,203.68.

dbt777 eliminated in third:

The very next hand saw fireworks between tbac1 and dbt777, the two short stacks left. All the action was preflop when dbt777 moved all-in and tbac1 called, putting himself at risk. tbac1 held the advantage with K♥Q♥ while dbt777 was behind with T♣7♣. The Q♦5♠4♦ flop delivered tbac1 a bigger advantage, one that dbt777 was unable to overcome with a 7♦ turn and A♥ river.

After that hand dbt777 was now down to 213,246 and was all-in the next two hands where he doubled-up and then tripled-up to 1,379,476. Eventually dbt777 and tbac11 sparred again, and the result was the same with dbt777 getting in behind with A♣6♥ against tbac11's A♥Q♥. The board ran out 5♦4♣3♣K♦Q♦ eliminating dbt777 in third place.

Heads-up:

Heads-up play started with Casino Royal holding a little over 2 to 1 chip advantage over tbac1.

Seat 2: CASlNO ROYAL (8534540 in chips)
Seat 6: tbac1 (4110460 in chips)

That advantage did not last as tbac1 slowly chipped away and took the lead in a five-million chip pot that was won without a showdown. A few hands after losing the lead Casino Royal was all-in. The hand started with tbac1 raising to 300,000 fromthe small blind. Casino Royal made it 550,000 and tbac1 came over the top with an all-in shove to just over seven-million, enough to put Casino Royal all-in. Casino Royal called and the two players cards were revealed. Casino Royal had K♦Q♦ while tbac1 had T♦T♣. The K♥J♦7♦ flop gave Casino Royal the lead with top pair and a flush draw. The 9♣ brought some hope to tbac1's chance of eliminating Casino Royal. When the A♠ hit on the river Casino Royal was shipped the 11,181,580 chip pot leaving tbac1 down to 1,463,420.

It took eight more hands for Casino Royal to finish off tbac1. The final hand came with tbac1 in the small blind raising to 300,000. Casino Royal called and the two players saw the 8♥4♣3♣ flop. Casino Royal checked to tbac1 who made it 375,000. Casino Royal raised to 750,000 and tbac1 moved all-in for his remaining 2,276,840. Casino Royal called and showed 9♥8♦ for top pair, tbac1 had Q♦J♥. The Q♣ brought a pair for tbac1 and the lead in the hand but things were not meant to be as the 9♠ came on the river delivering two pair to Casino Royal giving him the win.

Congrats Casino Royal.
