Rojas won the ESPT Ibiza Main Event cashing for €40,800 after making a three-way deal with runner-up Amaury Legait (France) with €50,000 and third-placed Daniel Ericson (Sweden) with €40,000.

The third main event of the third season of the Estrellas Poker Tour was held at the Casino Ibiza, and ran from May 16 to 20. A total of 269 players from 29 different countries participated in this leg, generating a total prize pool of €258,240.

The final table started off with eight players. The first to exit was Spanish player Dragan Kostic, who secured a prize of €7,750, followed an hour later by Jaume Niell Alomar in seventh for €9,800. An hour after the first break of the day, Swedish player Johan Ray was sent home in sixth with a prize of €12,390 for his efforts.

Twenty minutes before the end of level 25, French player Amaury Legait stepped up the pace and brought the game closer to its conclusion by eliminating two players in quick succession. Spanish player Daniel Coloma Serna in fifth (€15.100 and Lithuanian Saulius Tuluosa in foutth (€18,000) were his victims.

Shortly after, the three finalists made a deal, Legait securing the largest share of €50,000 with Ericson and Rojas taking €40,000 and €36,000 respectively. They agreed to leave €4,800 to play for and resumed play. Minutes after the restart, Swedish player Ericson became another victim of the Frenchman.

After less than five hours of play we were already heads up, and two hours later, Pablo Rojas overcame his French adversary to become the Estrellas Poker Tour Season 3 Ibiza Champion.

Seriously. You're going to need sunblock, and if you don't have any within reaching distance, you need to get yourself to the store. Right now.

Okay. If you're still reading, I'll assume your sunblock supply is in good shape. With that in mind, know this: the full schedule of tournaments and activities for the upcoming Estrellas Poker Tour event in Ibiza are now ready. That's a good thing, because the event kicks off in four days.

Assuming you have already booked your hotel (and if you haven't, read this ESPT hotels piece carefully), you are set for a poker week unlike any you've ever experience. Ibiza is one of the world's most exciting party islands. If you somehow manage to pull yourself away from the non-stop club excitement, there is also a huge slate of tournaments from which to choose.

This weekend in Ibiza, the Estrellas will put on ten different poker tournaments, including the €1,100 main event. Alongside that, there will be two big parties and a Poli Rincon-signed football jersey giveaway.

For full details on this weekend's events, visit the Estrellas Ibiza schedule page.

Estrellas Valencia in full swing

The PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour is once again underway, this time in Valencia, where Casino Valencia plays host to the second event of the season. Yesterday's Day 1A of the €1,000 + €100 event saw 176 players at the felt, 81 of them having qualified online on PokerStars. After eight levels 84 remained, with Alvaro Marino Nadal, winner of the Tournament Leader board in 2010, and Daniel Rauta, the current leader of the Tournament Leader board, among those eliminated.

Through to tomorrow's Day 2, however, are Team PokerStars Pros Juan Manuel Pastor and Christophe De Meulder, and Team PokerStars Online Javier 'El_Cañonero' Domínguez.

Chip leader is Dutch qualifier Richard Van Schendel with 85,800 chips, followed by Frederic Van Der Mersch from Belgium with 84,900 and PokerStars qualifier Manuel Jimenez Cecilia with 80,900 chips.

The tournament floor in Valencia

Today's Day 1B will see Team PokerStars Pro Ana Marquez and Juan Miguel Tomé Perez (the winner of Estrellas Madrid) begin their tournaments. Friend of PokerStars Poli Rincón and Team PokerStars Online Polish player Grzegorz Mikielewicz will also be in attendance. But perhaps the most celebrated participant due to play today is one of the most famous sportsmen ever to emerge from Spain, golfer Sergio Garcia.

Fore! Sergio Garcia headed to Estrellas Poker Tour

Make way in Valencia, because Sergio Garcia has a tee time. In this case, however, you won't find him on the first tee or sipping a cocktail at the 19th Hole. No, this week, Garcia is going caddy-less to Valencia for the Estrellas Poker Tour. While he may not have anyone there advising him on how many yards it is to the pin, he is not going into this round blind.

As you might remember, Garcia is a keen enough poker player that he made a very deep run in this year's PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. The pro golfer outlasted hundreds of players to finish in the top 5% of runners in the PCA main event. His adventure only ended after his ace-jack couldn't outrun pocket queens.

Despite that disappointment, Garcia's competitive spirit turned the experience into something he wanted to repeat.

Hoping for a favorable river, or thinking, "When can I do this again?"

At the time, Team PokerStars Pro Juan Manuel Pastor said of his friend, "This is entertainment for him and he has enjoyed himself a great deal. It's like a dream for him."

The good thing about being Sergio Garcia (apart form the prowess at golf and, apparently, poker) is that people actually like to have you around. As such, Garcia has decided to accept an invitation to Day 1B of the Estrellas Poker Tour main event in Valencia, Spain this week.

As you probably already know, Estrellas is the hottest poker tour in Spain and has been drawing people from al over the world to the fantastic games on the Iberian Peninsula.

Tomorrow, the Valencia main event kicks off. A day later, Señor Garcia will be teeing up.

Seats are still available to the event if you're looking for a chance to play with Garcia. You may never get the opportunity to get in 18 with him, but you could check-raise him all you want this week.

For more information on the tour, visit the Estrellas Poker website.

Rubén Velasco Merino leads, ESPT Madrid final set

While those who like things fast have been lapping up the PokerStars Turbo Championship of Online Poker, a super-paced live event was taking place in Spain. In Day 3 of the PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour Madrid, it took less than two hours to get rid of 30 players to ensure today's final table was set in double-quick time.

The 59 players returning to Casino Gran Madrid yesterday were already in the money after the bubble burst at the end of Day 2. But no-one quite expected the rush of bust-outs. Once the carnage was over, eight players remained, with Rubén Velasco Merino on top of the pile with 1,697,000 chips.

Chip leader: Ruben Velasco

Here's how the final table lines up at 2pm local time today as they chase the first prize of €113,350:

Rubén Velasco Merino, Spain, 1,697,000
Luis Rufas Acin, Spain, 1,087,000
Juan Miguel Tome Perez, Spain, PokerStars qualifier, 1,063,000
Luis Rodriguez Cruz, Spain, PokerStars player, 707,000
Álvaro Ballesteros, Spain, 700,000

ESPT Madrid playing to €113,000 first prize

There can be no doubting the continued success of the PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour. Yesterday's Day 1B of the Madrid event, the first of Season 3, attracted another huge field of 263 players, 69 of whom qualified on PokerStars. At the end of the night, 118 of them had made it through to join Wednesday's survivors for today's Day 2.

With the first prize being announced as €113,350, and 59 players being paid, the current chip leader is Spanish player Juan Perez Benitocomo with 95,100 chips, followed Pedro Javier Piazuelo Ferrero, who has 89,400. Also still in the hunt is Team PokerStars Pro Ana Marquez with 47,200.

Team PokerStars Pro Ana Marquez

One player who should have been out made it through in unlikely circumstances. On a [jd][ks][8s] flop, Mures Jaime was all-in with [js][8c] but found himself up against a set of kings and a set of jacks. No problem for Mures, however, as the turn was [8d] and the river... [8h] to make him quads! He ended the night with 31,200.

Jaime Mures

Day 2 begins at Casino Gran Madrid at 2pm local time today and, if you can read Spanish, or are handy with Google Translate, you can follow the coverage live on our sister Spanish PokerStars Blog.

Casino Gran Madrid is a familiar name to European poker players. It was here that last year's EPT Grand Final was held, and it will be a stop once more in EPT Season 8. This week, it is playing host to another PokerStars event: The Estrellas Poker Tour Madrid, the first stop of the tour's third season.

Such is the popularity of the ESPT that 220 players turned up to play yesterday's Day 1A, a bumper field that was whittled down to 110 by play's end, when the Russian Denis Vasiliev was on top with 90,000, a stack that could have been as high as 120,000 were it not for a last-minute hiccup. Ruben Velasco is right behind him with 87,500 chips.

Leader: Denis Vasiliev

Also through safely to Day 2 of this €1,000 + €100 tournament are Team PokerStars Pro Juan Manuel Pastor and Friend of PokerStars Poli Rincon, the former football star, both with around 40,000.

I'm not sure how good your Spanish reading skills are, but if they are better than mine, then you can dive in to full live coverage of this event, which restarts at 2pm local time today, over on our sister Spanish PokerStars Blog, where Ivan Marti is writing so much he is in danger of setting his laptop on fire.

And for more info on the tour, see the Estrellas Poker Tour website.

PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour unveils Season 3

PokerStars has today announced the return of the Estrellas Poker Tour for Season 3, with events running from January to August. Stops include Madrid in January, Ibiza and San Sebastian, with the Grand Final being held in Barcelona.

Each venue will host a fiesta of poker with schedules packed full of side events, and a €1,000 + €100 Main Event. This new season builds on the success of the first two, in which thousands of players took part and competed for a combined prize pool of more than €2,400,000.

Season 3 schedule
January 23-29, Madrid, Gran Casino Madrid, Main Event €1,000 + €100 (25-29)
April 10-15, TBC
May 14-20, Ibiza, Casino Ibiza, Main Event €1,000 + €100 (16-20)
July 23-29, San Sebastian, Casino Kursaal, Main Event €1,000 + €100	(26-29)
August 15-19, Barcelona, Casino Barcelona, Main Event €1,000 + €100 (15-19)

All venues have a Main Event capacity of at least 300 players, and satellites for the first event in Madrid are running on PokerStars now.

The Estrellas Leaderboard will again include side events, with additional prizes to the best performing players on the tour. At the end of the season, the player with the most points will be declared the Estrellas Player of the Year for huge prizes courtesy of PokerStars.com. The winner will be declared at the Spanish Poker Awards ceremony, which will take place at the first stop of Season 4. Last year's Leaderboard winner, Alvaro Santamaria 'Varosky' Velasco will play every single event in Season 3 as part of his prize for winning Season 2 Estrellas Player of the Year.

Team PokerStars Pro Juan Manuel Pastor said: "I've played almost every Estrellas event since the start and I can honestly say that they are dynamic events, fun and special. Special because you sit down to play with players who you've spent years sharing tables with, as Spanish poker has developed. Every time the best players come, and the quality of the events just gets better and better."

Team PokerStars Pro's Ana Marquez added: "I've only played a few Estrellas, because so far my career has focused on the U.S. Tour, but whenever I've taken part I've enjoyed playing against good players. So I look forward to the beginning of the third season, which will be the first whole season I play, and I'm hoping for some good results!"

Full details of Season 3 can be found at the tour's official website: www.estrellaspokertour.com.
