TCOOP 2013: Erä_Koira captures Event 14 win ($82 NL Omaha H/L, 6-Max, 2R1A)

Part of the fun of a tournament series like the Turbo Championship of Online Poker is the variety of events offered. Players who enjoy poker variations that don't often garner a lot of attention can find their niche amidst the expansive TCOOP schedule.

Omaha has become a staple in any tournament series, but the No Limit Omaha variety is less common. Add the hi/lo designation, along with 6-max tables, and it becomes even more exciting. As the icing on the poker-themed cake, Event 14 created one tournament with those specifications and added the opportunity for two rebuys and one add-on per player. All of this was compounded by the turbo structure, which offered five-minute levels, and it made for one wild ride.

After the 90-minute registration period ended, the $150K guarantee was left behind. The final numbers for Event 14 were:

Players: 1,069
Rebuys: 1,107
Add-ons: 238
Guarantee: $150,000.00
Prize pool: $181,050.00
Paid players: 144

Action calmed a bit after the rebuys and add-ons. The money burst two hours and 45 minutes into the tournament, at which point things sped up once again. Players guaranteed at least $289.68 for their efforts, but it was all-or-nothing for some players who had their eyes on the top four spots paying five figures each.

The only player with a red spade near his name to make it into the money was Team Online's Shane "shaniac" Schleger. He was staying aggressive, putting opponents to the test with several all-in moves. Eventually, though, he pushed with 5♦T♥7♦3♠ from the small blind, and MatejK992SLO called from the big blind with A♠A♦K♥K♦. The board came A♣7♣J♠Q♥9♠ for a set of aces and no low. Shaniac departed in 72nd place with $452.62.

As the four-hour mark neared, three tables were reduced to two, and in the blink of an eye, one table remained. That happened when former WCOOP winner IneedMassari (http://www.pokerstarsblog.com/wcoop/2010/wcoop-profile-ineedmassaris-life-changin-073625.html) exited in seventh place.

Marhka leads final table

The final six players were set up as follows:

Seat 1: marhka (3,337,835 in chips)
Seat 2: 111fr! (947,804 in chips)
Seat 3: nagyy88 (2,363,918 in chips)
Seat 4: kleopl (1,610,252 in chips)
Seat 5: TLD2008 (1,480,582 in chips)
Seat 6: Erä_Koira (2,129,609 in chips)

The first hand saw nagyy88 send 111fr! out in sixth place, which was worth $5,431.50.

A double-up of Erä_Koira through nagyy88 put the former in the chip lead, and when TLD2008 doubled through nagyy88, the latter was on the shortest of the five stacks.

TLD2008 doubled again, that time through kleopl, and then another time through Erä_Koira.

Nagyy88 was in a tough spot and pushed preflop with 7♥3♦9♠2♥. Original raiser marhka called with J♣A♣9♦7♦. The board came T♦6♣T♥7♠J♦ to give marhka two pair, and with no qualifying low, nagyy88 exited in fifth place with $7,767.04.

Kleopl took a pot worth 4.5 million chips from marhka to catapult into the chip lead, while TLD2008 held on with a double-up through Erä_Koira. Marhka doubled through kleopl to stay in action, and Erä_Koira also doubled through kleopl.

TLD2008 then went up against Erä_Koira in a preflop raising war. TLD2008 tried to limp from the small blind, but Erä_Koira raised from the big blind. TLD2008 then moved all-in with 5♥Q♣3♣2♠, and Erä_Koira called with 2♦5♠K♦A♣. The board came K♠4♦8♣6♠T♦ to give Erä_Koira the pair of kings and 8-6-4-2-A low. TLD2008 had to leave in fourth place with $11,768.25.

Three hands later, kleopl pushed for nearly 1.5 million chips with 3♠5♦2♠9♠, and marhka called from the big blind with 3♥A♣9♣7♥. The dealer provided T♠9♥K♦4♠6♥, and the kicker played with the pair of nines to give marhka the pot. Kleopl departed in third place with $17,199.75.

Heads-up for $30K

The last two players standing were seated with these stacks:

Seat 1: marhka (3,590,212 in chips)
Seat 6: Erä_Koira (8,479,788 in chips)

As Erä_Koira climbed over the 10 million mark, marhka needed to move and did it after a limped flop of 8♣3♥A♣. Erä_Koira called with 5♠K♣2♣2♥, and marhka showed K♠7♦A♦Q♥. The 8♦ came on the turn and Q♠ on the river to complete the hand and split the pot.

Four hands later, markha tried again, this time moving all-in preflop with 5♦6♥8♣2♥. Erä_Koira called with Q♣2♠A♣T♣. The board came 4♣T♥4♦9♠Q♠ to give Erä_Koira two pair for the high. With no qualifying low, marhka had to accept second place and the $22,631.25 that went with it.

Erä_Koira of Finland won the TCOOP title and $30,326.24. Congrats!
