Sunday Warm-up: A walk on the beach, FlipFlopUK wins $187K in largest Sunday Warm-up field

sunday-warmup-thumb.jpg4,989, 5,175, 5,165, 4,710. Those are the attendance numbers for the last four $750,000.00 Guarantee Sunday Warm-ups. The previous attendance records for this tournament piggybacked last year's Sunday Million becoming the Sunday Two Million when 5,268 players signed up and was won by SHOGUN1000 and the 5,341 that showed up during last year's 40 billionth hand promotion won by "homanaga". Since big brother was once again celebrating a larger guarantee tonight, FIVE MILLION DOLLARS, to be exact and a little something for the winner to park next to their mini-van in the form of a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, we set another attendance record tonight for both tournaments. Having a little side bet with my fellow scribe Jen Newell, who is covering the Sunday Million tonight, I guessed over 21,000 players for a rum-filled drink the next time we meet. Make it a Captain and Coke on the rocks with a wedge of lime as 59,128 players will make not one but TWO players millionaires tonight. No millionaires in the Sunday Warm-up but its record 6,154 players crushed the guarantee, set an attendance record itself, and created a $1.23 million prize pool with 900 going home with at least $320.00 with $187,207.92 slated for our champion tonight.

Noreweign Team PokerStars pro Johnny Lodden was one of three Team PokerStars pros still in the tournament along with 417 others as the players took a break for the fifth hour. Shortly after returning to the tables Lodden was seeking to gain some chips preflop. With the blinds at 3K/6K ante 600 Lodden shoved over the top of wiklund's UTG min raise for 77,676 total. Folded back to wiklund who made the call with Q♥A♣, leaving Lodden's pocket queens in full command of the 169,752 chip pot. The ace on the flop had other ideas as the one-outer failed to appear on the turn or river J♥ A♦ 3♦ 7♠ 2♣ sending Lodden home in 388th place ($480.01).

Johnny's departure left Team PokerStars pros Vadim Markushevski and Christian "el grillo" de León in the hunt for one of two six figure prizes sitting at the final table. Christian's demise however took to the form of pocket sevens in a three-way all-in preflop pot with pokkaaa1 and OnlyPlayRagz in the 5K/10K ante 1K blind level. OnlyPlayRagz covered both players and held anything but wet napkins looking down at pocket jacks J♥J♦ as pokkaaa1 flipped up big slick K♠A♥ and de León's chances looking slim with those sevens 7♠7♦. A lot of paint on the Q♣ K♥ T♣ 6♠ K♦ board left pokkaaa1 with the 358,614 chip pot and Christian with 233rd place money ($627.70). While the last two Team PokerStars pros faded, Vadim got stronger shortly after the fifth hour break moving into the top ten in chips.

Right before the players left for the seventh hour break Vadim would lose the majority of his stack to pilaa as the two shoved preflop with Vadim covering by 250,000 and creating a 846,180 chip pot and blinds at 15K/30K ante 3K. Big slick for Vadim could not find the board against pilaa's pocket nines and Vadim would come back to a short stack under ten big blinds. Nine hands after the break Vadim would shove from the big blind over imashokU's min raise from middle position. With pocket threes 3♣3♥ imashokU would make the call and started the coin flip against Vadim's A♦J♣. The Belarus pro once again could not connect with the overcards as the board spilled out 6♥ 9♥ 6♠ 2♥ T♣ shipping the 497,386 chip pot to imashokU and ending the night in 75th place ($1,587.73).

Vadim Markushevski 75th place

Down to the final table bubble playing hand for hand SmokerGri had a decision to make. Holding only 762,352 chips in the big blind with blinds at 100K/200K ante 20K and facing a raise large enough to put him all-in. A decision for SmokerGri because on table 504 DazzleO was all-in against Legadzo for a 2.8 million chip pot preflop. After losing the previous hand for a 10.1 million chip pot against Legadzo when his AJ failed to overcome Legadzo's pocket kings, DazzleO would call Legadzo's shove from the small blind into his big blind. This time DazzleO would have the advantage holding A♥8♠ to Legadzo's 4♥K♠ but the board had other ideas as a king came out on the flop and held J♦ K♦ 6♣ 9♣ T♠ to knock DazzleO out in tenth place ($6,892.48) and start up the final table below:

Left with ashes

As stated before SmokerGri came to the final table extremely short on chips and after one orbit tried to make something happen. With the blinds still at 100K/200K ante 20K SmokerGri would shove for 502,352 from UTG as it folded around to Legadzo in the small blind who three-bet to 4.4 million. RyanEric1 took the hint and folded the big blind as Legadzo flipped up pocket sevens 7♣7♠. SmokerGri got a race to get back into the tournament holding 9♠A♦ but couldn't find a light on the 6♦ 3♣ J♠ 3♦ 4♥ board and finished in ninth place ($9,538.70).

Wins all the time, except this one

Moving up to 125K/250K ante 25K blinds and dmitch442 leading out for a min-raise as Thilde_123 to the immediate left makes a three-bet to 1.25 million. Not to be outdone, winstpakker on Thilde_123's left shoves for 2.96 million. Folded back around the table to dmitch442 who gives up the ruse but Thilde_123 makes the call holding big slick A♠K♠. winstpakker's pocket nines looked good for the seven million chip pot on the turn T♦ 3♣ 7♥ 3♥ until the dirty ace hit the river A♣ sending him out of the tournament in eighth place ($14,769.60).

King on the flop, out on the turn

Blinds up to 150K/300K ante 30K as Thilde_123 min-raised from UTG and RyanEric1 a few seats over shoved for 2.7 million holding pocket kings K♣K♥. dmitch442 in the big blind min-raised to 5.4 million holding pocket tens T♥T♦ and Thilde_123 found a replay of the Oscars to watch and folded. Ten on the turn J♣ 7♠ A♦ T♣ J♠ gave dmitch442 the two-outer as RyanEric1 was left to think what could have been in seventh place ($27,077.60).

At the tenth hour break Legazdo and Thilde_123 led the six-pack with FlipflopUK closely behind with blinds at 200K/400K ante 40K:

Legadzo: 17,702,966
Thilde_123: 17,445,040
FlipflopUK: 13,433,970
dmitch442: 5,512,086
sameensiffat: 4,533,702
boris.bee: 2,912,236

Running out of honey

Three hands after the break, boris.bee found K♦Q♥ in the small blind facing a min-raise from Legadzo on the button. Shove for 2.3 million was the right answer but FlipflopUK in the big blind decided to make it interesting by four-betting to 3.98 million. Legadzo let go of the steal attempt as FlipflopUK showed A♣Q♠ for the dominating hand. The J♥ 6♠ 8♥ J♣ Q♦ board provided no excitement as boris.bee's stinger was plucked in sixth place ($39,385.60).

Walking all over the competition

On the very next hand Thilde_123 tried the min-raise ploy from the UTG again, but FlipflopUK would three-bet from the button to two million. On to dmitch442 in the big blind holding 5.3 million chips, put them in the middle holding pocket jacks J♦J♠. Thide_123 did not have pocket kings this time and folded, but FlipflopUK did K♠K♥ and made the call. 6♣ Q♣ 9♥ 4♦ 4♥ board did not bring dmitch442 the two-outer he needed and finished the night in fifth place ($51,693.60).

These flip-flops were made for walking

And they're going to walk all over you. Two quick eliminations by FlipFlopUK and as the blinds moved up to 250K/500K ante 50K he would have sameensiffat, who promised to share her biggest tournament score with her husband, all-in preflop. Watch below for the results:

Dominated holding A♦6♥ sameensiffat was looking for a three outer against FlipFlopUK's big slick A♠K♦. Instead with a king on the turn 4♠ 8♥ 4♦ K♥ T♣ sameensiffat would have to settle for her biggest score here at PokerStars finishing in fourth place ($67,694.00).

Getting a leg up

Good news for Thilde_123 he was not all-in against FlipFlopUK. Bad news, he was all-in holding 7♠A♣ against Legadzo's pocket eights 8♣8♠. Good news Thilde_123 would find two pair on the board. Bad news, the door card was an eight 8♦ 2♥ K♦ 7♣ A♦ giving Legadzo a set and shutting out Thilde_123 long before that ace dropped on the river. Legadzo would take in the 18.7 million chip pot as Thilde_123 left us in third place nearly scoring six-digits tonight ($98,464.00).

No chop talks as FlipFlopUK takes on Legadzo for the largest Sunday WarmUp first prize

Despite the multitude of eliminations by FlipFlopUK, he would start heads-up play with 24.3 million to Legadzo's 37.1 million. Due to the lack of chat, chopping was not on the minds of either of the players as the blinds started out at 250K/500K ante 50K.

55 million and $187K in the middle

Watch below as just eight hands into heads-up play both players got it in after the 3♣ 4♣ 4♥ flop:

Legadzo's 3♠A♦ needed a small miracle to catch up to FlipFlopUK's flopped trips 4♦5♦. The turned 6♦ stopped all talk of a runner runner and 55.7 million chips slid to FlipFlopUK's stack as Legadzo was left with just 5.8 million.

Final footprint on the win

After giving up a double up on the very next hand, FlipFlopUK would lean and then lean some more winning the tournament's last eight hands. The blinds remained the same as FlipFlopUK made a min-raise from the button and Legadzo came over the top for 8.7 million with FlipFlopUK making the call. Suited connector 9♥T♥ for Legadzo against the solid A♠Q♦ of FlipFlopUK. The solid ace became a solid pair of aces on the flop 5♣ K♣ A♣ and a winning pair of aces by the river 5♠ 2♥ as FlipFlopUK collected the remaining 17.5 million chips from the pot winning the entire $187,207.92 first prize after defeating the 6,153 player field!
