Casey "bigdogpckt5s" Jarzabek binks 1/8/13 Super Tuesday, earns $78K

The second Super Tuesday of the year saw another above-average field of 485 turn out, thereby continuing the long streak of guarantee-busting prize pools. The top 54 finishers divided the $485,000 (well over the $300K guaranteed), and after a little more than 10 hours and 20 minutes of play it was Casey "bigdogpckt5s" Jarzabek taking a first prize of more than $78K following a three-way deal at the final table.

It would take about five hours and 15 minutes for that starting field of 485 to whittle down to 54 players and the money, with Team PokerStars Pro Maxim Lykov among those just missing the cash after finishing 60th. At that point oestberg led all with more than 175,000 chips, comfortably ahead of MauriceSch in second position with about 109,000 and NaDaA1 in third with just over 96,000.

About an hour-and-a-half later just 18 players remained, led by nailuj90 with more than 260,000, oestberg in second with about 228,000, and Randal "RandALLin" Flowers in third with just over 211,000.

A little more than an hour after that the field was cut down to nine, during which stretch xmrwhat emerged as the chip leader by building a stack of more than 575,000.

Those coming up one table shy of making the last one included anakin200708 (18th), former Super Tuesday winner Pauli elTopo (17th), and oestberg (16th), each of whom earned $4,365; Markus "MarkusG91" Garberg (15th), Fresh_oO_D (14th), and David "d.quang" Quang (13th) who made $5,335 apiece; and LI0NB0Y (12th), idvalentina (11th), and iAct.VolanD (10th) who each saw $6,305 added to their PokerStars accounts.

After just under eight hours of play, the final table had begun.

Seat 1: royace1 (United Arab Emirates) -- 124,323
Seat 2: MON3Y$HOT (Australia) -- 135,775
Seat 3: MauriceSch (Germany) -- 368,581
Seat 4: Luke "LFmagic" Fields (United Kingdom) -- 75,954
Seat 5: xmrwhat (Israel) -- 575,179
Seat 6: nailuj90 (Germany) -- 357,157
Seat 7: Randal "RandALLin" Flowers (Mexico) -- 389,525
Seat 8: Casey "bigdogpckt5s" Jarzabek (Canada) -- 218,998
Seat 9: WithoutFishS (Russia) -- 179,508

During the first hour the final table saw three players eliminated -- MON3Y$HOT, royace1, and MauriceSch.

MON3Y$HOT fell in a hand that started with a 2x raise to 11,200 by xmrwhat from middle position and a reraise to 28,555 by nailuj90 from a seat over. It folded to MON3Y$HOT in the big blind who shoved for 118,675 total and only nailuj90 called.

MON3Y$HOT showed A♦K♥ but would need to improve against nailuj90's K♣K♦, and when the board came 2♠9♦8♠5♠J♦, MON3Y$HOT was out in ninth.

Just a few minutes later xmrwhat was again raising to 11,200 -- from early position this time -- and Randal "RandALLin" Flowers called from the cutoff seat. royace1 then reraised all in for 62,769, getting a call from xmrwhat, a reraise-shove over the top by Flowers, and a fold by xmrwhat.

royace1 had 8♠8♥ and RandALLin A♣K♠. The flop was okay for royace1, coming 3♦Q♥J♣, but the K♣ turn put Flowers in the lead. The river was the 9♠, and royace1 had hit the rail in eighth.

It would take nearly 40 minutes more before MauriceSch went out in seventh, during which stretch the blinds had moved up to 4,000/8,000. MauriceSch open-pushed all in for 62,430 from the cutoff with A♦5♥ and got one caller in Luke "LFmagic" Fields who held K♦Q♦ on the button. The community cards rolled out 2♠8♥T♦6♣K♣, that river king giving Fields the best hand and ending MauriceSch's run in seventh.

The remaining half-dozen pushed past the nine-hour mark with Fields having moved out in front with more than 600,000 followed by Casey "bigdogpckt5s" Jarzabek in second position with a little less than 510,000.

Then a big hand arose between Jarzabek and Randal Flowers that saw RandALLin opening for 18,099 (a little over 2x) from the button, Jarzabek reraising all in from the small blind, then Flowers calling for 252,400 total.

bigdogpckt5s: T♦T♣
RandALLin: A♦K♥

The pair were racing, and the K♦2♦2♣ paired Flowers's king to put him in front. But the turn brought the T♠ to give Jarzabek a full house, and after the 4♠ river Flowers was gone in sixth.

That hand pushed Casey "bigdogpckt5s" Jarzabek into the chip lead, and soon after Jarzabek would add still more to his stack by eliminating WithoutFishS in fifth.

With the blinds at 4,500/9,000, it folded around to Jarzabek in the small blind who open-pushed his leading stack all in and WithoutFishS called all in from the big blind for 93,639. WithoutFishS was ahead with A♣3♦ versus the T♥7♣ of bigdogpckt5s, but the board came 9♠K♥Q♦J♥3♠ to give Jarzabek a straight and the hand.

The final four played on for a while, then paused the tournament to discuss a possible deal to divide most of the remaining prize money. At that point Jarzabek had more than 1.16 million, nailuj90 was next with just under 700,000, xmrwhat third with almost 371,000, and Luke "LFmagic" Fields last with just under 191,000.

When ICM figures were calculated and presented (leaving $6K for which to play), three of the four were amenable, but after a delay Fields returned to say he wanted considerably more than what was being offered to him. The others quickly refused to budge, and Fields shrugged off the others' refusals.

"Happy to play on," typed Fields. "Just thinking about swinging for the fences, feeling lucky seems I came in 9/9 =)." Indeed Fields had been the short stack when the final table had begun, but unfortunately for him his run of good fortune was about to come to a swift end.

Play resumed, and with the blinds up to 5,000/10,000, bigdogpckt5s raised to 20,000 from the button, Fields reraised all in for 267,335 from the small blind, then xmrwhat reraise-shoved from the big blind to force a fold from Jarzabek.

LFmagic had A♠3♥ and xmrwhat T♠T♣, and five cards later -- 8♦5♣8♠7♣J♣ -- Fields was out and they were down to three.

Soon after that the trio decided to pause the tourney again, and this time a deal was agreed upon in short order with Jarzabek being guaranteed $72,514.94, xmrwhat $68,407.09, and nailuj90 $66,186.97. With $6,000 still left to play for, the cards were soon back in the air.

The 10-hour break came and went, and not long after Jarzabek was again min-raising from the button to 20,000, then nailuj90 reraised to 51,525 from the big blind. bigdogpckt5s called the reraise, and the pair saw the flop come K♦Q♠8♥. nailuj90 led for 56,558, Jarzabek raised to 123,116, and nailuj90 called.

The turn was the 4♠. nailuj90 checked this time, and when Jarzabek bet 201,159, nailuj90 check-raised all in for 536,566 and Jarzabek called. nailuj90 showed 8♦7♦ for eights, not as good as the two pair that bidgodpckt5s had with Q♣8♣. The 7♥ wasn't enough for nailuj90, and just two remained.

Heads-up play began with bigdogpckt5s well in front with 1,766,164 to xmrwhat's 658,836. The pair battled for about 10 minutes with only a small change to their stacks, then came the tournament's decisive hand.

The blinds up to 6,000/12,000, xmrwhat began with a raise to 24,000 from the button, and bigdogpckt5s came back with a reraise to 61,255. xmrwhat reraised again to 109,213, and Jarzabek called.

The flop came 8♣5♠T♥ and both players checked. The turn was the 3♠, eliciting a bet of 144,000 from Jarzabek which xmrwhat called.

The river then brought the 3♥, at the sight of which bigdogpckt5s pushed all in. xmrwhat thought about it, then called all in with the 518,092 left behind, turning over just A♦7♠ for ace-high with the treys on board. But Jarzabek's hand value represented the other extreme -- 5♦3♣ for a full house! -- and the victory was his.
