It was a night of action -- and plenty of "run good" -- at Event #17-Medium, the six-max. pot-limit Omaha with rebuys. Aside from the $162 it took to enter, the 743 entrants further contributed 1,061 re-buys and another 550 add-ons (each $150), making for a $353,100 prize pool all told. Once again, a SCOOP guarantee was easily exceeded, as this one was $250K. The top 108 finishers were paid in Event #17-M, with the player who ultimately accumulated all of the chips scheduled to receive $62,251.53.
At the first hour break and end of the re-buy period, ProCasanova, Looptroop, and randywest275 had jumped to the top of the leaderboard. Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier has also made it onto the front page of the counts, sitting in 24th. After four hours of play, 288 players still remained, with LFmagic on top, followed by DAVIDOXXX, charder30, craigthedeac, TheCleaner11, and Team PokerStars Pro George "Jorj95" Lind III in sixth place.
While Mercier would be out by the time the money bubble burst after six-and-a-half hours of play, Lind would still be there in the top 10, with fellow teammates Noah "Exclusive" Boeken nearing the top 20 and Jorge Arias also starting an upward climb. Once in the money, PS pros Florian Langmann (100th), Tom McEvoy (76th), and Johannes Steindl (53rd) would all cash, as would Lind who eventually fell in 41st and Jorge Arias who was knocked out in 39th.
After about nine hours of play, 30 players remained, with Shaun Deeb sitting on top, followed by MAVKIS and HN Kakaroto. With 18 left (a little over nine-and-a-half hours in), Deeb had slipped back to fifth place, while culibrk1 had taken over the lead. At the ten-hour break Deeb was back on top with 1.035 million, followed closely by culibrk1 with 1.021 million and HN Kakaroto with 1.006 million. Two more frequently-found names on WCOOP & SCOOP leaderboards came next -- Vingtcent in fourth and teacuppoker in fifth -- with Boeken still fully in the hunt in sixth.
Once down to 12, Shaun Deeb went to work on his table, dispatching of MAVKIS (in 12th) and m1sspiggy (in 11th). Over on the other table, culibrk1 took out teacuppoker in 10th. Then Deeb eliminated Justin58 in ninth. Vingtcent sent PLH_23 home in tenth, and then, in the final hand before the 15-minute break that came at the 12-hour mark, Deeb eliminated adam eterno in seventh. The six-handed final table was set.
Seat 1: biblinger -- 301,586
Seat 2: Team PokerStars Pro Noah "Exclusive" Boeken -- 1,700,842
Seat 3: Vingtcent -- 951,699
Seat 4: culibrk1 -- 1,797,043
Seat 5: shaundeeb -- 3,004,365
Seat 6: HN Kakaroto -- 406,465
Responsible for four of the last six eliminations, Deeb had built himself a substantial lead as the final table began, with the blinds 15,000/30,000. About a half-hour later, the blinds had reached 20,000/40,000 when Deeb opened with a raise to 87,654 from the button. bigblinger reraised all in for 211,586 from the big blind, and Deeb called. bigblinger showed K♦6♥J♥J♦ while Deeb held T♥K♠Q♥T♣. bigblinger was still ahead after the 7♠9♣7♦ flop, but the Q♦ turn gave Deeb a better pair, and the 2♣ on the river sealed it, knocking bigblinger out in sixth.
Soon afterwards, the table folded around to culibrk1 who raised to 120,000 from the small blind, then Deeb made it 360,000 from the BB. culibrk1 reraised all in for 772,605 total, and Deeb called, showing 9♣Q♦J♣T♥ to culibrk1's 5♦A♣2♣T♠. The flop came down -- crushingly for culibrk1 -- Q♣9♦Q♠, giving Deeb a full house right away. The turn was the 8♥ and the river the 2♦, and culibrk1 was out in fifth.
Deeb was on fire, running over opponents while running very, very good. Boeken expressed his wonder at Deeb's magic touch:
Exclusive: its really that easy huh
shaundeeb: lifes good
shaundeeb: i say nuts preflop
shaundeeb: knowing I will end with it
Vingtcent: i'm starting to understand how you're the most successful mtt player ever
The waffle crushing would continue. About a dozen hands later, Boeken opened with a raise to 80,000 from under the gun, Vingtcent called from the button, then Deeb made it 360,000 from the SB. Boeken folded, and Vingtcent called. The flop came 5♠3♣2♣. Deeb bet 840,000, Vingtcent raised all in for 904,941, and Deeb called, showing A♣7♥K♠A♦ for aces while Vingtcent had Q♥J♣T♥5♥ for a pair of fives and hopes of pairing one of those face cards. But the turn and river -- 7♦9♥ -- brought no help for Vingtcent, and they were down to three.
Deeb now enjoyed a commanding lead over his two opponents, with more than 6 million chips while both HN Kakaroto and "Exclusive" Boeken had slipped just below 1 million each. They reached the 13-hour break, but all three agreed to skip it and push through.
The blinds now at 25,000/50,000, Deeb min.-raised to 100,000 from the button, and Boeken called from the big blind. The flop came K♣4♥5♥. Boeken checked, Deeb bet 225,000, Boeken check-raised all in for 650,719, and Deeb quickly called. Boeken showed 7♣3♠4♦5♠ for two pair, but Deeb had 9♥5♣T♣A♥ for a flush draw and outs to better two-pair hands. The turn was one -- the 9♦ -- putting Deeb in front. Then the 7♥ on the river made him his flush. Boeken was out in third.
Heads-up play began with Deeb in a commanding position, with 7,083,027 chips to HN Kakaroto's 1,078,973. Deeb's dominance continued unfettered throughout the seven hands the pair played -- all seven of which were won by Deeb.
In the final hand, HN Kakaroto limped in from the small blind/button and Deeb checked. The flop came 8♣2♣8♥. Deeb checked, HN Kakaroto bet 50,000, Deeb check-raised to 250,000, HN Kakaroto pushed all in for 553,973, and Deeb called.
HN Kakaroto: J♠2♦4♣J♥
Trips for Deeb, and the 6♠ turn filled him up. The river was the T♥, and Deeb had done it.
After leading for much of the latter stages of the tourney, Deeb was responsible for nine of the last 11 eliminations -- a dominating performance. Shaun Effing Deeb!
