Women's Poker League: Stellar finishes in final month

What an exciting way to end the WPL! It was a great month for a number of women who participated, and even more names were added to the year-end freeroll roster. That $10K freeroll will award the final prizes of the Women's Poker League, along with the cash prizes given to those who finished in the top 100 of each division.

As previously announced, the Women's Poker League is now over, with December as the final month of rankings. Very shortly, the new PokerStars Women's Club details will be announced, and players can earn weekly cash and prizes going forward. The Club will officially launch on January 7, 2013, but stay tuned to our social media pages for details of some fabulous introductory promotions.

Meanwhile, the December WPL rankings showed some amazing performances from many women, some of whom made it into the top 10 of more than one division. Mariieclaude, reneewalk24, starablazkov, NoKnowing, and silvsnoopy all won big cash prizes for their double-division finishes, though the biggest prizes went to maadcaroma, Nadina55, and ukrainefowin for topping their respective categories.

Let's take a look at all of the final WPL rankings for December:

Division 1: $.10 League

One name familiar to many WPL players is maadcaroma of Portugal, as she often showed up in the top 10 over the course of the league. And she won another division, this time with 139 points for 31 tournaments played in the $.10 league. Right behind her was mariieclaude of Canada, who took fourth place in November and rose to second this month, finishing with 137 points for 30 tournaments. PetrasYaris of Germany was a close third with 135 points in 31 events. Thutinsimlis of Hungary finished fourth, and tjumpy of Canada took fifth after finishing second last month.

Portugal had two players in the top 10 in December, as did Canada and Germany, but Hungary topped them all with three players finishing at the top of this division.

December Top 10:

1st place: maadcaroma (Portugal) - 31 tournaments, 139 points = $100
2nd place: mariieclaude (Canada) - 30 tournaments, 137 points = $90

7th place: Patalhoca (Portugal) - 27 tournaments, 120 points = $35 (TIE)
9th place: Ketty Boop (Ukraine) - 28 tournaments, 119 points = $17.50 (TIE)
9th place: naplovas (Hungary) - 38 tournaments, 119 points = $17.50 (TIE)

Division 2: $1.10 League

Many new names showed up in this division in December, and it was Nadina55 of Russia who soared to the top to win it handily with 189 points from 28 tournaments she played. Reneewalk24 of Peru finished a solid second with 168 points for 31 events, while also finishing third in the $5.50 division. ZzCHEiiiOKzz of Russia came in a close third place with 167 points for 29 tournaments, and helgamapa of Iceland and starablazkov of the Czech Republic rounded out the top five. The latter did it while taking second in the $5.50 division. Other double-division finishers included NoKnowing in sixth here and ninth in the $5.50, as well as silvsnoopy with ninth here and sixth in the $5.50.

This top 10 list boasted of players from around the world, from Iceland to Argentina, but Russia and Peru each had two players finish at the top of this division in December.

9th place: Stella796 (Germany) - 31 tournaments, 139 points = $45 (TIE)

Division 3: $5.50 League

Ukrainefowin of the Ukraine had a sweet victory this month after finishing third in November. She finished December with 214 points from the 31 tournaments she played and secured the $500 first place prize. Starablazkov of the Czech Republic finished with 208 points for 30 events while taking fifth in the $1.10 division, and reneewalk24 of Peru had 204 points from 31 tournaments to go with her second place in the $1.10 league. Evyvale of Peru took fourth place and mariiclaude took fifth, the latter combining this with her second place in the $.10 division.

Three of the top 10 players this month were from Peru, and another three hailed from Canada. The Ukraine took the top spot, though, with Czech Republic coming in second.
