John Duthie Bio

John Duthie

John Duthie is the brains behind the European Poker Tour (EPT), but he isn’t just a skilled businessman. He became the first player to win a million-dollar payday in a televised poker tournament when he took down the prestigious Poker Million event in 2000. He’s also cashed in many other big events since then, and came close to winning a WSOP* bracelet when he finished as runner-up in the $10,000 World Championship Heads-Up event in June 2009 for $386,636. John finished second for $250,000 in an event in the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP). You can find him at PokerStars using the screen name ‘JohnDuthie’.

EPT London: Admitted bias notwithstanding...

john_duthie_ept_london.jpg

Of course I'm going to favour London as a venue for both the UKIPT and the EPT; it's my adopted hometown. I don't feel that I'm betraying my roots by flying the flag for this festival (I'll always be a Yorkshire man at heart), but it's where the EPT was...more

Press pause, by John Duthie

by John Duthie I've had a fairly hectic couple of weeks traveling around the globe; part pleasure, part business. World Series Main Event: Slow start, except for one

Main Event_Day 1AIJG_4672_IMPDI.jpg

As far as poker is concerned there's no flash start to grab your attention. Unlike motor sport or football or um, chess, there's no early moment that shapes the rest of the game. Instead poker has a more organic evolutionary period, rendering the first half hour uneventful as most...more

WSOP Event #29: PokerStars' John Duthie runner-up in $10K Heads-up

duthiehuftd.jpg

What a day: eight hours of gruelling, energy-sapping heads-up play to determine who would take the coveted WSOP bracelet for topping the $10,000 World Heads-up Championship. If those of us on media row covering the best-of-three final were running on empty by the end, imagine how the players felt. Team...more

WSOP Event #29: Duthie trails in $10K Heads-up decider

duthiehuftb.jpg

After a long, long first match, which Team PokerStars Pro John Duthie came from behind to win, the second was over quickly in favour of Leo Wolpert. There was not much Duthie could do, after a bout of pre-flop raising they saw an ace-high flop - Duthie had A-K but...more
