Weekly Dose: Tossing the cookies

On most days, I want to be Daniel Negreanu. However, when I see the type of people he may have to face in the PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge, I suddenly don't feel nearly as envious.

See, there are a lot of people who get a chance to submit casting videos for the show, and that means it takes a lot of creativity to stand out and get noticed. That means the folks Negreanu will end up playing are pretty darned dedicated to the idea of beating Negreanu at his own game.

As we take a look at the week's best internet video offerings, ChristianJS's auditon tape was the first one that caught our eye.

That's the man right there, a veteran of ten years of poker and the war in Iraq.

What you have below is no handicam home movie. ChristianJS and his team put together a short film you might recognize.

Speaking of that hit show, we've just been handed a behind-the-scenes look from the good folks over at PokerStars.tv.

In the video below, see Negreanu fall in love, Barry Greenstein comment on Kid Poker's abilities, and Vanessa Rousso in a headband.

Watch More Behind the Scenes at the Million Dollar Challenge on PokerStars.tv

While we're talking about PokerStars.tv, we might as well get back to that old chestnut known as The Online Poker Show.

Once again, we've got the great highlights show from the PokerStars Sunday Million.

Want to see somebody win $180,000. Then have a look at this.

Watch Online Poker Show: Sunday Million - November 1st, 2009 on PokerStars.tv

Finally, we're just days away from the final table of the World Series of Poker and ESPN's Inside Deal is getting ready for it. In the video below, you get to see Chad Brown with a pretty lady (who is not Vanessa Rousso...)

That should keep you busy at work for a while. Tell you're boss we said we're sorry.

Weekly Dose: Shooting bullets for a million

With all the live events running over the past few weeks, we haven't had time to get in our Weekly Dose of internet television. So, here's some of the best stuff we've found online in recent days.

First off, we'd be remiss if we didn't mention the ongoing PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge. A South Carolina priest has already won $100,000 so far. With qualifiers still going on, the audition videos continue to roll in.

Here's one from the fantastically-named PDONKYDONK. Who is that? Well, this guy, of course. His real name is Patrick and he comes straight out of Orlando, Florida.

Patrick is not one to leave things to chance. Even though he only really needed to qualify once, he has actually already qualified twice. Now, he's hunting down bad guys and killing them with aces.

How so?

Have a look below.

Once you have a chance to digest that, it's time to get ready for the WSOP November 9. A week from Friday, the final table of the World Series of Poker will resume.

Among the final nine players is none other than PokerStars player Kevin Schaffel.

This week, he stopped by the ESPN studios in Bristol to sit down with the team from Inside Edge. See what happens when somebody tries to beat him with both hands tied behind her back.

We also have the newest episode of the Online Poker Show from PokerStars.tv. This week's episode takes a look at the October 25 PokerStars Sunday Million.

Here's how somebody ended up winning nearly a quarter million bucks for one day of work.

Watch Online Poker Show: Sunday Million - October 25th, 2009 on PokerStars.tv

That's all for this weekk. Enjoy!

Weekly Dose: Men in tights

And some days you wake up not expecting anything and get to see a man in tights pounding on his nipples. You just never know how fate's coin flip is going to go.

Today, we're going to give fate a little help.

The man you're about to look at is Dwayne Buth, He's a high school teacher. He's a wrestling coach. He's wearing tights. And he wants to play against Daniel Negreanu in the PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge.

This is his audition video. Be prepared...here there be nipple pounding.

See, there is no way your day is going to get any better from here on out.

Now, onto poker.

This past weekend, the Sunday Million returned after it's brief WCOOP hiatus. Here's a look at the final table highlights.

Watch Online Poker Show: Sunday Million - September 27th, 2009 on PokerStars.tv

Finally, tomorrow we embark on our EPT London adventure, starting off with the high roller event. To get in the spirit of the EPT, here's a look at Daniel Negreanu getting all jiggy with it in Barcelona.

Watch EPT 6 Barcelona Day 5: Daniel Negreanu's Rap on PokerStars.tv

And just in case you don't want to stop thinking about a grown man in tights pounding on his nipples, we offer this screen capture for your computer desk top.

Seriously...pass it around the office.

Weekly Dose: Holy WCOOP!

Is it just us or is time flying while we're having fun?

We did a little math this morning and, sure enough, by this time next week, the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker will be over, just a happy memory dancing on our tired synapses. All we'll have left are the posts on this blog and the work of the good people over at PokerStars.tv.

With all that in mind, let's revel in the present with the Weekly Dose, the best of online videos and poker.

First up is a look back at the second week of WCOOP through the eyes and virtual lens of PokerStars.tv.

Watch WCOOP 2009: Round-Up Show 2 on PokerStars.tv

And holy cow...I mean, seriously, HOLY.

As you you might have heard, PokerStars is auditioning qualifiers for the PokerStars Million Dollar Challenge.

We have already seen some doozies, but this one has us getting all reverent. Ever sat across the table from this guy?

Check out this South Carolina priest who plays poker.

If the priest wins the casting call and gets on TV, he'll be playing against Kid Poker himself, Daniel Negreanu. It just so happens that Negreanu is featured on this week's Inside Deal from ESPN.com.

Finally, we're getting a couple weeks of rest before the kick off of the biggest EPT London event. We're getting psyched up by watching some old videos of previous events there.

Wanna join us?

Weekly Dose: WCOOP, EPT take the spotlight

Normally on the Weekly Dose, we go all cross-platform from You Tube, to ESPN, to the venerable PokerStars.tv in our attempts to find the best in poker video on the internet. This week, as the World Championship of Online Poker kicks off in record-breaking fashion and the EPT event in Barcelona runs toward the final table, we're finding more than we can possibly watch on PokerStars.tv alone.

Our first selection on the Weekly Dose is a look back at the first ten <a href-"http://www.wcoop.com">WCOOP.com events. There have been some massive wins already and millions of dollars in prize money awarded.

You can see who's winning the most in the video below.

Watch WCOOP 2009: Round-Up Show 1 on PokerStars.tv

Meanwhile, EPT Barcelona is about at its end, and the video blog team caught up with Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier.

If you're unfamiliar with Mercier, he's the man who won EPT San Remo a couple of seasons ago and went on to win just about everything you could possibly imagine since.

Check out the enlightening interview with him below.

Watch EPT 6 Barcelona Day 3: Jason Mercier on PokerStars.tv

Mercier also plays a part in the video below.

Now, we'll be honest here, what you're about to watch is pretty remedial stuff mean for people who are just starting to play. That said, Mercier probably gives the best performance overall and there is probably some comedic value in watching members of Team PokerStars Pro tell you the rankings of hands.

Also, this probably reopens the debate about whether a royal flush should actually be considered a hand ranking rather than a hand name, when, as everyone knows, a royal flush is only the best possible straight flush, and thus not really an independent hand ranking.

But, I digress.

Weekly Dose: Ramdin wheeling and Dealing

What do you get when you mix a qualifier for the Million Dollar Challenge with a guy who can draw Iron Man?

Well, you get Jerry Bingham, a guy, who quite frankly shocked us with his audaciousness and lack of manners. Well, something like that. You'll have to watch to see what we're talking about. After all, the guy is Doyle Brunson's love child. Or, again, something like that.

See, the Million Dollar Challenges gives people a chance to play across the table from Daniel Negreanu on TV, and part of the process is creating an audition video. We've already seen several of the attempts from the casting room, but we thought this one would be a good example for today's Weekly Dose of video.

Elsewhere in the world of small screen video, ESPN's Inside Deal just dropped another new episode on us this morning and it features none other than Team PokerStars Pro Victor Ramdin.

Watch the video to discover the one charity Ramdin won't be donating to.

Finally, you're probably aware the PokerStars Sunday Million is going on hiatus for a couple of weeks while we play the World Championship of Online poker. With that in mind, here's your final taste of the regular stuff for a while.

Watch Online Poker Show: Sunday Million - August 30th, 2009 on PokerStars.tv

Don't forget, WCOOP begins on Thursday. I'm certain we're going to see some good Weekly Dose matertial out of that.

Until then, happy watching.

Weekly Dose: Negreanu Frenchy?

The gauntlet? Yeah, that's it on the ground there. It's been thrown.

Imagine this: three men in middle America in the middle of a birthday celebration that take time out of their party to call out Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu.

Last week, the PokerStars Blog debuted the Weekly Dose, a look around the net for some of the more interesting videos that relate to our little corner of the world. This week, our friend behind the PokerStars_com Twitter account found this gem.

First, some background.

PokerStars.net has recently partnered with FOX Sports to put on the Million Dollar Challenge. It's a chance to face off against Negreanu on FOX Sports and walk away with a million bucks. There's a catch, of course. If you qualify, you first have to submit your casting video. So, here ya go.

And be prepared for this line: "We call him Frenchy around here."

We suppose this would be a good time to point out Negreanu is not French. We suppose this would be a good opprotunity to remind everyone that while Negreanu is Canadian, he is not French Canadian.

That, of course, will not stop us from referring to Negreanu as "Frenchy" at least once a month for the foreseeable future.

Frenchy.

Alright. Now that we have that our of our system, we can move on to the other videos of the week, specifically how the PokerStars Sunday Million ended up in a six-way chop this weekend.

Check out the latest episode of the Online Poker Show below.

Watch Online Poker Show: Sunday Million - August 23rd, 2009 on PokerStars.tv

Finally, by this point you should be aware that PokerStars is sponsoring one of the newest ESPN projects, the Inside Deal. Each week, the show finds one or two of the big names in the poker world and gets inside their head for a bit. Not only that, it has the results from the big online tournaments and all the other news that's fit for the internet.

The latest episode just dropped. You can watch it below.

That's your Weekly Dose.

Frenchy.

Okay. We'll stop now.

Weekly Dose: Greenstein hits ESPN

Here at the PokerStars Blog, we try to teach the young ones that almost all things are okay in moderation. That is, it's fine to play poker on 24 tables, but don't do it for more than 12 hours at a time without going to the bathroom. Or, if you have to drink beer, make sure you limit it to no more than six pints per day (except Saturdays). Or, if you have to watch television, watch the stuff we feature here on the Pokerstars Blog.

That's why we're starting a new feature on these pages. We call it the Weekly Dose, a quick round-up of what's good on the small screen this week.

First up is one Mr. Barry Greenstein, cash pro, tournament genius, noted author, and all around nice guy. Greenstein hooked up with the boys from Bristol (and Laura Lane) for a sit-down on the third episode of ESPN's Inside Deal.

As you know, Greenstein is not one of these people who sugarcoats his words to make everybody happy-happy. He tells it like it is and that's why he like him. In the episode below, you'll see Barry at his best, and also find out why everyone in Bristol is lining up to see him. Oh, and if you've never heard Greenstein say 'booyah,' this is your chance.

Once you're done there, you can stay up just a little past your bed time and watch the latest episode of the Online Poker Show. Once again, we have all the highlights and commentary from this weekend's Sunday Million.

You can check it out below.

Enjoy. And then get your hind end in bed!

2009 WCOOP: What's it like to be a champion?

A little more than a year ago, I sat here in front of my computer and watched a man win a sick amount of money in the biggest and richest ever online poker tournament. Had I had a little foresight, I could've hopped in my car and driven 90 minutes to watch him do it in person.

Carter King, better known as "ckingusc," pulled the last part of his screen name from the University of South Carolina. A Gamecock from Columbia, King became over two days the biggest thing in online poker.

Carter King sits for an interview with the PokerStars Video Blog team

Fore more on King, you cann look back at our 2008 WCOOP winner interview or see our 2008 WCOOP final table wrap-up.

Since that fateful day in September in 2008 we have had the time to track down King and get his thoughts on what it means to be a champion, what he's doing now, and how the win has affected his life.

You can watch the whole interview just by clicking on the video below.

The Online Poker Show (7-27-09)

Back in the days before television, people competed on an American radio program titled, "The $64 Question." When TV became the new American source of entertainment, the price tag for the show producers went up. Now the show was called "The $64,000 Question." It seemed people just loved watching other people winning money, and lots of it.

That's why PokerStars.tv has become such a hit. Every week, you can watch people win far more than $64,000 in the weekly Online Poker Show.

This week we get another taste of the Sunday Million, a monster affair with more than 8,300 people. We won't give away the ending, but you can search back a few stories to see how it turned out if you like.

The $220,000 question...who won?
