The German player Jan Collado just eliminated Joep van den Bijgaart in what can only really be described as quite gruesome circumstances. After a player opened under the gun, Collado made it 3,100 from the button. Bijgaart made it 8,500 from the big blind and the early position player got out of the way. That put the decision back on Collado, and so far this year Collado has been making a lot of very good decisions.
The young German was among the early chip leaders in Dortmund, and he was the final table bubble boy at the PCA. But this won't go down as one of his finest ever plays: he moved all in for his last 12,000 and then winced when Bijgaart insta-called. Bijgaart showed A♥K♣ and was all over Collado's K♦2♦. The flop, though, changed things. It ran out 7♣6♣2♣, with that deuce giving Collado the lead. Bijgaart still had outs with the K♣, but the 4♦5♠ weren't any of them, and the Dutch player, sponsored here by PokerStars, took a walk.
"Nice hand," he said, shaking Collado's hand. "How did you think I could fold for 12,000?"
Collado shrugged and looked apologetic. That's the way it goes.
