EPT Deauville: From the top

There may be the addition of a TV stage, ready for a local broadcast later in the week, but apart from that the grand ballroom looks about the same as it did yesterday ready for another EPT day one. The early forecast predicts another 300 players will take their turn to play eight levels, with 10,000 chips - same again with feeling, the EPT way.

Yesterday's high water mark was 105,000, set by the stack of Belgian player Jonathan Abdellatif, who grinned his way to the overnight lead that may prove hard to topple tonight. But as you'd expect there are a few folk ready to give it a go.

Bolting from the Team PokerStars Pro gate today will be Dario Minieri, Gavin Griffin, Luca Pagano and Noah Boeken, hoping to emulate Isabelle Mercier's performance yesterday and amass something like her 48,000. They'll be joined by World Champion Peter Eastgate.

Not surprisingly the French are out in force. Local aces Antony Lellouche, Thomas Fougeron, Bruno Fitoussi, Fabrice Soullier and Vikash Dharasoo play for the honour of France whilst American raiders Antonio Esfandiari and Freddy Deeb hope to claim another title for their side of the Atlantic. Mats Iremark, the last EPT champion to be crowned in the Deauville department, also plays today. This would be quite a time to become the first to win two.
