The overnight standings in Event 11

Strong finish in Event 08 takes Alexandros “mexican222” Kolonias to new heights

Alexandros “mexican222” Kolonias

Alexandros “mexican222” Kolonias entered Day 2 of Event 08 with the chip lead and just 12 opponents to overcome. No big deal, right?

Even if Andras “probirs” Nemeth, Conor “1_conor_b_1” Beresford, Ivan “Negriin” Luca, Johannes “Greenstone25” Korsar, and Thomas “WushuTM” Muehloecker make up half the remaining field — right?

Right. Kolonias surrendered the chip lead just before the final table began but held tight and reclaimed it with three players left. From there he took out both of his remaining opponents to lock up the title and more than $265,000.

It’s the third-largest score of Kolonias’s PokerStars career, after close calls during WCOOP 2015 and last year’s Winter Series. But it’s also his biggest outright win, topping a $211K win during the 2018 Turbo Series and his $144K victory during SCOOP 2014.

Kolonias now has $2.78 million in career cashes on PokerStars and $3.18 million in total cashes online. Roll back the clock and read all about Kolonias in this excellent 2018 interview with Stephen Bartley.

Pimmss plunders second event of the series for $36K

Pimmss of the Netherlands has two titles this series

“Pimmss” came exceptionally close PokerStars glory back in the fall of 2017 with a second-place finish to Tankanza in the Super Tuesday Special Edition. The pain of falling short of that title was certainly salved by the $206K the Dutch player earned for second place, but any remaining sting is long gone now that Pimmss has won a second High Roller Series title in less than a week.

Pimmss started with a slight chip disadvantage heads-up in Event #12 against another player from the Netherlands, “Beowulf3182.” The two quickly struck a deal that left $2,000 on the table for the winner, and within minutes Pimmss had come storming back for the $36K win.

Together with the prize Pimmss earned for winning Event 02, the Dutch player’s take for this series is now up to $149K.
