Hi Everyone,
My name is 'Boku87', a former Supernova Elite player on PokerStars, and I would like to introduce you all to my latest poker challenge. Within a year, I am going to try to turn $5 into $100,000! Recently, I completed a challenge to turn $100 into $10,000 in less than 2 weeks, but this new one will be a lot harder.
Starting out in this challenge won't be easy, as proper bankroll management does not really allow you to play much with only $5. For SNG's you should have at least 50 buy-ins, meaning 10 cent SNG's are an option. However, No Limit cash games are out of question as you need a minimum buy-in of $1 for the lowest limit 1/2 cents blinds, and just 5 buy-ins is not enough. The risk of ruin would be too high. Unless of course you don't care about going broke because you can just reload another $5...!
Fixed Limit 2/4 cents have a minimum buy-in of only 20 cents, so these are also an option. Basically, my plan will be to start out with playing some 2/4 cent Fixed Limit cash games, and also add a couple of 10 cent SNG's. I will try to get my bankroll to around the $10 - $12 mark so that I can start playing 25 cents SNG's without the fear of going broke! I will continue doing so until I reach about $40 or $50, and then I can start playing the $1.10 SNG's. If I lose more than 20 buy-ins and go back down to $20 or less, I will go back to the 25 cents until I reach at least $40 again. But as soon as I win money at the $1 SNG's and get my bankroll over $100, there is basically no chance that I will go broke!
When I get over $100, I will add some bigger buy-ins like the $1.75 18-man SNG's, and I will also start taking a shot at $3 SNG's when I reach about $180. At this point, I will most likely play both the $1.10 and $3.25 games at the same time, mixing them about 50:50. If I run bad, I will shift towards 70% $1.10 and 30% $3.25; and If I run good, I will make the shift towards 70:30 in favour of the $3.25 games. As soon as I get over $250 mark, I will play $3 SNG's exclusively.
After that my general bankroll management will be about 70-80 buy-ins. As soon as I reach 70-80 buy-ins for the bigger levels, I will start adding some of the higher buy-ins. Once again, I will then split my play between buy-in levels; if I run good, I will play more at the higher level; If I run bad, I will play less tournaments of the higher buy-in.
Of course I am always ready to move down completely to the lower level if I lose too much. I will talk about my strategy for higher buy-ins as soon as I have a bankroll to play them.
I hope to be able to turn my $5 into at least $100 within a couple of days, and then maybe even reach the $10,000 faster than I did in my last challenge. This time I am not limited to $16 or lower buy-ins and I can also play tournaments with more than 45 people, so my chances should be pretty good. It is my goal to get to $100,000 within 5 months, and I will try to play about 8 hours every day to get there as fast as I can.
I look forward to keeping you all up to date with my progress and hope you all enjoy the ride as much as I (hopefully!!) will. I'm aiming to update my blog at least twice a week, so make sure you check back regularly to see how I'm getting on!
